02 MCS Shifter Loose Feeling

Picked up a 2002 MCS and the shifter feels loose. I can have the car in gear and still move the lever from right to left about a 1/4".
Took it apart and it looks as if the plastic ring and pivot ball arm have play/slop in them. I drove a friends 2004 MCS today and his is no where near this way with higher miles on his car.

Has anyone resolved this issue? Are there parts available or do I have to buy the entire shift assembly? ( as I did not see any individual parts in the diagrams or searching on here).

If I have to buy the entire assembly can I use one from a newer model, like an 04 or something?

Thanks in advance, this is my first post on here too Looking forward to many more.

Perhaps a Cravenspeed short shifter and their cover maybe a solution.Just another option.

Go to Real OEM and look at the diagrams.

This is for a 02, but you need to choose the month of the build to get accurate results, so start over and make sure you have the correct diagram.

I have an 03 MCS and when i bought it, it did have some wiggle when it was in gear, i put an B&M short throw shifter and it still has the same wiggle. I have driven other Mini's as well and i just think this is how the assesmbly is. I have never encounterd a problem in my car with the wiggle.

Thanks, I was looking at that and seems as if the bushings/parts dont come individually. Thanks for the reply

Thanks very much for lettting me know that the B&M did not cure the wiggle, I was thinking about that as a possible cure.

I wonder what is different about the 2004's mechanism and if it can be adapted or not.
