Sunroof Won't Open and Blowing Fuse

Hello all.

I'm having an issue with the sunroof on my 2003 Cooper. It stopped working around July and hasn't worked since. I checked the fuse and it was blown. So i changed the fuse, pushed the button to open the sunroof and the fuse promptly blew out.

This would seem to suggest there's an issue with the motor. Anyone have any thoughts or experiences with this issue?

Any help/advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

This is totally off the cuff, but perhaps the fuse is burning because it's stuck and the track needs lubrication.

Mine started to move in s.l.o.w. motion in June out of nowhere. I lubricated the track and it's up and running normally.

Good luck!

I thought about that. And it may be worth a try again, though i'm not looking forward to hand cranking the sunroof open. What did you use as lubrication?

But I should add that I can't hear the sunroof making any noise when I push the open button. I would expect to hear something from the motor before it blows the fuse.

You can remove the motor and check the gear inside. look for metal chips and signs of binding. A lot of the time the cables bind to the pint where the sunroof will not open. In extreme cases or there is a foreign object like a rock in the tracks it can blow the fuse.
