Lesson Learned..the hard way

Just got back from NAPA for the 3rd time in 2 weeks. I ordered a starter from them as they were the only store that had access to them besides internet. While the first time they just ordered me an starter for an Automatic Transmission, while that won't work with my 6 speed manual. After spending about 2 hours trying to get it in I realized that this wouldn't work. I than ordered what I thought and the store manager thought to be the correct part from what there computer told them, WRONG! It was again a starter for an Auto, now they are ordering what they hope to be the correct part and are second day airing it from Alabama to get here Monday. I will keep everyone posted as to how this turns out, but my suggestion for anyone else trying to do the starter DIY is not to get it from NAPA, go someplace else! This is the first time I have said this about NAPA as normally there folks there are really good but this time that has not been the case. Stay Tuned

It happens... I have also had issues getting the right belts for my wife's car from Auto Zone. They swear they are right but alas, they aren't.

Dealer was the one who over torqued all the bolts holding my splash car to my bumper cover, breaking the metal brackets in the process, making the bolts IMPOSSIBLE to get out without drilling. The also stole my tow hook...

In order of price it usually goes:
-Internet
-Auto Store
-Dealer

In terms of immediate availability it's usually
-Dealer
-Auto Store
-Internet

Napa has done this to me countless times. It seems their system isn't very reliable.

I always bring the old part in to compare with the new one. I haven't been burned yet with the wrong part.

That's why we only use OEM parts. Time is money and all those trips do cost. Plus the quality of part isn't what the OEM was. If you need call us we'll get you the right one.

Well NAPA screwed up again and now I am trying to find someone with this Starter. Moss Mini does not have it or even stock the correct part, and I am waiting on Way Motor Works to call me back, I am really hoping his guy has my part! I will keep you all posted as to how it goes.

Before you seal the deal you may want check with either Classic Mini or Morristown Mini. I believe both give a discount to NAM members - at least 10%.

How about looking up the correct part# on Realoem.com first and then who ever you choose to deal with can verify it,just enter your vin# and away you go to the correct part.

Thanks everyone for all of your help, especially the guys down at Way Motor Works. My starter is being sent to me overnight, as I have been with out my car for most of the summer and I REALLY want to drive it. Thank you so much for all of your help and my annoying phone calls. I am a believer that when you take the time to help some one out with an issue, only good things will come back in return. Way Motor Works you have a customer for life, seeing as I will be keeping my MINI for life!
