dash lights are gone
#1
Tonight I turned on the headlights but nothing lighted on, no backlight on the stereo, the climate, the toggle switches, the sunroof switch, no light on the spedometer neither on the tach.:???:
While driving, suddently the dash lights came back again,
Everything is working fine (so far) the headlights are working, and all the gauges are working too; I guess it mus be a burned fuse, but I've no idea which fuse to look for.
I've only 600 miles on the odoemeter, any ideas of what's going on??
Paul.

I've already talked with my dealer and he told me that there's no fuse that controlls/kills the entire dash lighting, he told me that there's a joint of 56 pins that controlls the lighting, and it must be loose 'cuase of the vibration (with 600 miles on the odometer?? Come on!!)
I've to take the car with the dealer...he sound to me like he've heard the same complaint a lot of times before

Loose connector makes sense to me. You guys in Mexico have some pretty rough roads (so other Mexican members have said)...and MINI quality control - and I use that term with more than a few grains of salt -- is certainly not beyond loose wires/connector blocks.
Have the dealer check your underseat airbag connectors while you're there. Those tend to loosen up too. :???:

I had the opposite problem but it might be related to yours.
My dash lights wouldn't turn off when I shut off the engine and took the key out.
I didn't know what to do, but knew I would have a dead battery in the morning if I didn't do something. So... I disconnected the battery and went to bed. Next moring I reconnected the battery and everything has worked fine since. That was months ago. I later found out there is a module that controls all this lighting. Apparently driving in wet weather can effect it. The cure is to do a reset like I did.
Anyway, you might try disconnecting the battery for longer than ten minutes.
This supposedly does a reset on the module when you hook it back up.
This may not fix it but it's worth a harmless try.

MMM....disconnecting the battery... how bad could it be??, I thing I'm going to try it 'cause my dealer can receive my car into three weeks to make a one and a half day reparation (I know it sounds absurd, but with only about 100 minis in the whole country, and a lot of BMWs you've to wait tooooo long to have your mini repaired)
I'm going to cross my fingers and hope it will cure my dash backlights
