Possessed Pass Side Window = Complete Reprogram

Well, in the last few months my passenger side window has been possessed: when I want it to go down, it goes up, when I want it to go up, it goes down, up, then down again. Driver side window is not affected at all.

At first I thought I needed a new regulator, as my 05 S had flaky window issues (a longtime BMW problem). But no my SA said the car needed to be reprogrammed, a 2-6 hour procedure, just for the passenger window issue (one they claimed they were very familiar with).

I tried the SA-suggested reset procedure and it lasted about 3 days (roll window down, hold for 5 seconds, roll window up, hold for 5 seconds).

Anyone else plagued withthis problem? According to my dealer, it's pretty widespread.

Yes, I have had this problem as well and it took one day at the dealership to reprogram it.

They told me that you have to "roll" down all the way both the driver and driver's window once a week for the memory feature to work.

I had the same thing too - just the passenger side window. My SA said the issue was that the feature that prevents the glass from crushing fingers or whatever you may have stuck through the window was too sensitive. It's amazing that the only way they have to adjust this setting is to completely reprogram the whole car. I had to leave the car overnight for this procedure. I didn't get any advice about running the windows once a week as a preventative maintenance thing.

When I first had my windows tinted, it was slightly too tight for the safety circuit, and it would reverse as mentioned. The guides seem to have loosened up enough by now.

I needed to have the footwell module replaced and then reprogramed, which helped for awhile. Then they ended up replacing the window regulator assembly for a loud clunk when the window was lowered.

I had this happen yesterday. I was parking and noticed my passenger window wasn't fully closed, so I rolled it up and it popped back down half open. I repeated this 3 or 4 times and each time it was almost closed, it would open back up again. I've only got 1800 miles on my Clubbie, and it's 1 month old. I looked at the toggles and thought maybe something was hitting it, but there was. It finally closed, but was very strange.

i have had this happen to me once. My issue was related to a slight rattle i had which was also related to a loose track bracket. The track is held by 2 bolts that go through the panel, i tightened it up and it went away. the loose track had mis aligned the window and it would sense too much pressure so it would back out(safety feature).

I have had to have my car "repogrammed" twice for this issue - the same one as OG but on driver's side.

I think that mine was caused by ice on the window and moving the window out alignment or something so it would set off the pinch sensor. The worst part was when i'd shut the door the window would be on the outside of the doorframe. However, after the last program it has not happened since. I hope it doesn't happen again as it is a pain to drive 2 hours to get this fixed.

I started having this this week. So far, take it down, then it will go up. It is hard to believe the ECU controls the windows. No clunk. no rattle. After the one time when first tinted, has worked fine over a year.

"MEMORY" in the window circuit? A problem looking for a solution. Stupid BMW. I will never buy another BMW. Hear they are doing an "M" on the 1-series. I might like it, but no freeking way will I buy another BMW. Did I mention I will never buy another BMW car?

Service bulletin SI M51 01 08 " Faulty programming".
Seemed to correct the issue. It also reprogrammed my turn signals to act like a normal car. I did not know it was changeable.

TVR,

How long did it take to reprogram? Does it really take overnight to fix the windows? Ugh......this just happened to me this morning, and I am waiting to talk to the S.A.

Update:

Pros:
I got lucky and they squeezed me in today. It took them 4 hours to reprogram the entire car, but everything is good as new. They also replaced my key ring, because it was starting to peel. One thing I noticed is that the Hi-Fi radio now lists the name of the radio station and the name of the song that is playing (before it did not do that). Was this part of the update, or did I just not turn on the RDS on my radio? By the way the service bulletin # is 510108.

Cons:
It seems like I have to retrain the car my shift patters on the auto, and reapply my personal settings(presets, 3 blinks, locking doors when driving off, etc.), but these are minor annoyances.
