How smooth is your MINI at idle?
My 2010 MCS is the first brand new car that I've ever owned and sitting at a idle it shakes like it's an old car... Just want to know if everyone's car feels like this. My last car was a Toyota pickup and it rumbled almost the exact same way, but that was because it had issues.
I have a new 2010 Cooper (got it in May) and felt vibrations when idle, and also when going 15-20mph. I brought it to the dealership 3 weeks into having the car...they felt it too, but their "computers" checked out all ok. They suggested "breaking in" the car to 1000-1500 miles. I'm at 1200 miles and still feel some vibration, although it has lessened.
I previously owned a 2007 Cooper and do not recall this much vibration when new.

Sounds like the HPFP may be dying.. and yes, they're known to crap out "immediately" on a new car. Search for HPFP (high-pressure fuel pump) and read about how troublesome the damn things have been. Good luck.
I got my 2010 in March and it idles smoothly, however a few hundred miles earlier I started hearing this loud annoying "squeaking" noise which some NAM users suggested was probably the HPFP. But the squeak went away. I listen closely each time I start up the car to see if it comes back so I can take it to the dealer, but so far so good. Good luck!
My car will idle rough for a couple of minutes when I start it... but I have not found this strange after owning TDI VW's for most of my driving life...
My car makes virtually no noise after it has warmed up. I had a friend of a friend in my car once who thought my car was a hybrid because the engine could not be heard when I was stopped at lights.
Just monitor the sound, make a mental note of when it is happening (ie. is it always when you first start it in the morning? does it happen mid-day after you have driven it too?)
It should lessen as you drive it more. I disagree with your dealer though. It takes MUCH MUCH longer than 1,000 miles to break in an engine.

Thanks for the replies everybody... I have 3000 miles on it now and it still does it. hot/cold doesn't matter, it does the same thing. It may not shake that much, but I think I should bring it to the dealer for them to check it out. Just doesn't seem right to me.
