Headliner time

Well Ive known my headliner in the rear needed to be fixed, but while driing on the interstate yesterday the entire front of the headliner by the sun shades fell down and won't stay back up and all the orange foam is falling from it. So I looks like this is my next project/repair. I would like to do it myself and replace it with a vinyl, or some Fabric that can be wiped down easily and will not attract dirt and grime like the OE. Are there any problems I may encounter while doing this? Has anyone done this themselves and have any helpful tips?

Thanks in advance

Thanks. Looks like Illl be doing this myself to save $100's. I can get parts at cost so if I need to replace the pillar panels it wont break the bank too badly. Im considering painting the headliner depending on the condition when removed.

I've done a ton of searching today on headliner info. Seems like Euro cars with sunroofs have a 1/8 foam backing, not 1/4" like many standard headliner materials. I think Im gonna go with the Perforated Vinyl with 1/8" foam backing for the ease of be able to clean it. Sounds like 2 (72 x 60) yards seems to be enough to cover it with wrapping the edges (unlike the OE from MINI.BMW where it seems die cut to the edge.

Well tackled the rear last night. I completely gutted it...carpet, panels, pillars etc.. Headliner is still in for now because Im still driving it lol. But I did not break any clips nor do you really have to completely remove the A & C pillars. When its unclipped it falls away from the headliner enough to be able to manipulate the headliner in and out. Im ordering the perforated Black vinyl to replace the fabric.

Keep yall posted

You know, it's fairly obvious what you need to remove to get the headliner out. What no one seems to describe is how to remove the pillar covers, the mirror etc so that you don't break things. Any help here would be great.

mirror: grab at base and twist. the whole thing will come off.

Pillars take some massaging to get off without breaking clips [they are designed to stretch]..... When I took my headliner out I just took my time evenly pulling the pillars from both sides. worked for me.
