'09 Mini S, Injector Problem

We have an 09 Mini S with just over 9,000 miles. Three weeks ago it lost power and the yellow check engine light came on. The dealer replaced two injectors. A week later, same problem and another injector replaced. Two days later, same problem. It is at the dealer again, but we haven't heard back. Anyone else have this issue? Any thoughts on what might be the cause of this? Seems odd to get 3 or 4 bad injectors on the same engine.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Dan

Sounds like the HPFP (high pressure fuel pump) to me, a notoriously unreliable part. Sounds like they're winging it replacing injectors. Call and demand an update. It does indeed seem crazy to have several "bad" injectors. Maybe there's a fuel issue clogging them? Naah, my money's on the HPFP.

I just went through a similar circumstance, where the dealer replaced all four injectors only to not solve the problem. They replaced the HPFP and that did the trick.

One thing I was told was the dealer has an in-house process for testing ethanol content of the fuel in your tank. I'd say just make sure you get Top Tier fuel if you have the chance before bringing it in so they dont question badly laced fuel.

We pushed hard for a new fuel pump, but the dealer insists that we haven't ruled out bad injectors, so we have the car back for now.

Wait until it goes bad again, then see what they say.

Did they ever tell you which fault codes were displayed on the car's computer? Maybe they could shed some light as to why they pinpointed the problem on the injectors.

I'll check the work report, but I think they just said "fault codes" without specifiying which ones. The car has been running fine for a week now, so hoping for the best.

I had about the same issue on my 2008 clubman, the dealer found carbon buildup and fouled injectors. My car started this at 2000 miles, after replacing injectors and cleaning the carbon 2 times in 200 miles they had a tech from MINI USA look at the car and still the problem came back again. I told them they could give me my money for the car back or give me a new car. They gave me a new car and I have over 25000 miles on the new car without issue. Maybe it's the fuel pump maybe not.

The fourth injector went bad; still no diagnosis as to the root problem.

Have you/your garage thought about a bad HPFP in such a bad condition that it pumps parts of itself to the injectors and thus destroys them?

We pushed to have the HPFP checked, but no luck. After the fifth new injector, we insisted on a new car, which they agreed to.

glad your getting a new car after all the trouble. Like I said in previous post, I had the same issue and never did find out what was really wrong with car but they gave me a new one and I now have 30k miles on it and no problems.
