Flatbed Sandwich - Car Dies

OK - I will try to make a long story short - I have 37K on car

I have been complaining to my dealer about high oil consumption for a long time. I've had timing chain tensioner and timing chain replaced on two separate visits after never ending engine chatter (will look at paperwork) other fixes as well - also had JCW Stage 1 installed approx 1000 miles ago

I went back to dealer last week to set apt for a few other things and to investigate tapping noise when I accelerate. I could not reproduce sound with service tech in car.

However it was idling rough and we set the apt to investigate it, oil consumption, melted hood scoop, broken door handle etc etc I needed to wait 10 days for loaner apt - mini no longer pays for rental cars during repairs.

Sure enough on my way home i got a CEL. Called dealer immediately and they said to baby it and they would see me on my apt date (10 days later) and was told if CEL turned red to bring it in. It was now running even rougher.

Today I was driving on highway and check engine light started to to blink and it felt like I lost compression/power and my speed dropped. I pulled off highway and got to safe place and call Mini Road Side They towed it to dealer and I'm now waiting for verdict - OUCH!!!!!

From the sounds of it you have a $h!tload of carbon buildup as a result of the crappy pcv system design combined with the direct injection. Get yourself a can of Seafoam and go to town.

Sounds just like what happened to my clubman last Friday. it has 38+K on it. It was picked up by roadside asst. and the dealer still has it.

After talking to the dealer at length about the problem they said there was no carbon build up and that the head and valves needed replacing. Alos there it may need some other parts as well. Dealer hopes to have it finished today.

I do not remember any tapping noises but it started running rough Friday at lunch and then at the end of the day leaving work it was even worse. CEL codes showed miss fires on all four cylinders.

I have Seafoamed mine twice over the last 6 months with very little smoke either time.

I will just have to see what the paperwork says when I get it back.

My dealer is paying for a rental car while mine is in the shop and got me one local to my home (i live 70+ miles from the dealer), that way I did not need to travel with the car to the dealer to pick one up. The dealer will also deliver the car back to me when the work is done.
