Mono-chromatic mirror gone bad!?!

Hey all, I have an 04 MCS, and seeing how my aftermarket warranty went out about 600 miles ago, you KNOW something has to go wrong right after the warranty is up! I was told I have a mono-chromatic rearview mirror, it reflects like when people shine their headlights in your mirror. There is now a huge white bubble in the mirror and the entire thing is blurry. The retail from mini for a new mirror is around $250-$330, and I just feel horrible spending that amount of money on a mirror! I have checked out car-parts.com, not sure if getting a mirror from a wrecked mini without a picture of it will make me feel reliable in my purchase. Was wondering if anyone had a rearview mirror on here I could purchase for a decent rate or direct me someplace. Does not have to be this mono-chromatic mirror. Thanks!

Here is a picture of the mirror http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...s/03231206.jpg

If you could post a picture of the "huge white bubble", that might help everyone figure out what's going on.

The rearview mirror is the one thing I thought BMW couldn't screw up!

I put a link up of the picture of the mirror, there is no texture change and there is no shadow, its just a huge white splotch.

Weird!

I think you should take it to the dealer and see if they'll replace it under warranty/goodwill. It's obviously out of warranty but this appears to be a "concealed defect" -- mirrors don't normally degrade like this, even Mini mirrors.

I certainly wouldn't buy another one until all of the dealer/MiniUSA/BMW warranty appeals were exhausted.

WayMotorWorks.com has a used mirror for $80.00 listed under the used/specials section...there is a picture too.... I have bought a few things (actually many things from Way), and I can heartly endorse any used parts that he sells...he is brutially honest in his descriptions....and prices things very nicely. The fact that he is a vendor is a big plus!!

thanks so much! I will def. try that site you listed, also, I would love to use the factory warranty, I think it went up about 2 years ago. I have an 04, even though I only have 36k on it
