Purchased a B&M short shifter from Dan(nice guy) of Pilo Racing.

By my standards it's pricey and the install time of ... (2) hours adds substantially to the final cost.
but..........
the final result is ...well worth the expenditure of $$$$$.
This particular mod... IMHO makes car feel...like it should have felt.... when I initially purchased it!!!!!!

A truly dramatic change in feel.
It’s a day and night change and IMHO.... a must for those on the mod ...path

The gearbox feels tight and substantial, the throw is short and sweet and smooth, and.......
gone is that sensation of your gear shift feeling like...... you are stirring a kettle of soup while going thru the gears.

I found a new local speed shop here, who is interested in modding MINI's .They are talented, prices are fair. and nice guy's . It is local to me on Long Island (Valley Stream)...and I will be glad to forward his info via IM or e-mail to anyone who is interested.

I highly recommend this short shifter ...and the speed shop as well....

Peace,
D

I agree with Dennis, the B&M kit is very good and comes from various sources- webbmotorsports.com, Pilo Racing and Promini to name a few in the $128 to $140 range.

I'd say the **** is dropped about 1.5 inches. The shifting effort is not increased that much and the shift throws are quicker. I use an aftermarket MOMO **** and it does come with an alloy **** or you can use your stock shift ****.

You will LOVE it, somewhere I posted when I did my install of course I Modded the install and did things a little different to insure no vibration because the instructions indicated there was a possibility. I am very pleased with mine and five other people that have seen and tried it say the same. That's a fair deal Turner Motor sports is offering you the first one can be a little bit of a hassle but the 2nd time around with a lift should take about a hour. Tip Remove the **** pull straight up don't hit yourself in the nose by grabbing the ball and leveraging with your knees, disconnect the exhaust at the flange behind the CAT and the exh. pipe support behind that then the heat shield over that section and slide it back. Now pop off the cover and disconnect the two cables from shift linkage from remove the four bolts.
Pop up the shift boot and remove the whole shifter unit to a work bench to install parts. Then reverse the procedure... norm

I love NAM (MCO), packed with useful infos and many helpful members!

I'll be installing B&M kit as soon as my MCS is delivered some times in January. How difficult is it to install it myself? Can someone post instruction or better yet, with pictures? Thank you!

There's a pdf version of the install instructions on B&M's website (bmracing.com?), but I'm not sure if it's for the 5-speed or the 6-speed, or if that matters.

Cooperspeed installed a short shifter on his own and managed quite well, though from what I recall when speaking with him about it it was a bit of a PITA for him.
