arm rest not "latching"

hi all,

Just picked up a 2005 MCS this week. The top of the arm rest that slides back and forth to open the small storage area, no longer latches closed.

I am not sure what part is broken - not clear to me how it actually latched originally.

I am guessing i either need the new top (the covered piece) or the lower arm piece itself.

There were two very small plastic pieces in the storage area - but so far I have not been able to determine where they came from. This weekend I will try to disassemble and see if I can learn anything.

Thanks for a pointer if you have suggestions!

Mine never latched correctly and I learned to live with it. Now its become a constant habit to keep pulling it closed while driving.

Same here. Mine (06) has never latched completely and I don't think it ever did. I had an 2010 loaner from the dealer and it was exactly the same.

My 05 also has never latched. I have put loop tape on one of the side rails & the hook tape to the top. You don't see any of the tape when the door is closed.

A very cheap & quick mod that gets rid of that annoying sliding door problem. Now It always stays closed & opens very smoothly only when I want.

I should try that and get rid of one of my habits!

My 06 was loose from day one.
I had it replaced under warranty.
It doesnt seem real tight now or when I had it replaced but it doesnt slide with my arm on it anymore.

My '10 is so tight that sometimes I wonder if it's meant to be opened, or that it's out of its tracks and I risk ripping it off. Thankfully it's small enough that the only thing that's in it is my rarely used garage door opener.

These armrest were a bad design. I've only seen a couple that actually worked. So don't feel bad. Heck even the one in my car is broken.
