misfire in cylinder #2

I have a misfire in cylinder 2 that also turns on the DSC light. The car will sputter heavily if attempting hurried acceleration under 3k and still has a slight sputter if given above 3k. I have changed the plugs, and cleaned the connectors on the coil. I am looking at my coil and wire options and considering OEM is expensive enough, what are other possible causes? I will update this after replacing coil and wires within the next week.

I am at 99k.

Please help, as driving like a 97 year old women is every bit as exciting as ... . .. being a 97 year old woman.

I was able to purchase the MSD for $70 on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/com...au_pf_dp_chart
It does not list the MINI as compatible but a quick run to autozone showed that the coil listed for the cars supplied is the same as the one they list for the MINI base model. I will confirm or deny this when I get it in the mail.

Just pull the spark plug wires off of each spark plug one at a time and run the engine. put screwdriver into the end of the wire and hold it close to a good ground. If it sparks, the coil and the wire are good, if it does not, then that coil output or that wire is bad. switch the wires around until you figure out what is bad, then replace.

Here are some affordable wires and coil pack, But I personally would start with the wires.

I have the MSD in and it has made some difference, the car runs better but not right. The problem still exists though. The wires should be here on Monday. On the other side, Amazon had my part to me in less than 24 hours. That was pretty much amazing. I'm running the Bosch +4's.

It seems he did the coil, plugs, and wires. All are pretty cheap, and are generaly good to do to keep your car runnng well.
I warn you not to assume that these items will fix any misfire....it could be more related to the condition of the head or the valves, or even the pistons, or fuel injectors.....
If you are seeing a similar problem, I would do the simple stuff, plugs and wires....they are most likely due anyways.....the coil is an possible fix..if you have a reason to believe it is defective or it fits in well with upgrade plans. Mini's use a waste spark ignation system...so it fires 2 times more than most people would anticipate....similar to toyota and older honda's. If the simple basic stuff does not do it, I would get the car diagnosed at a shop...just tell them what was done already as far as new parts go.

There have been a post or two where this Misfire code was the manifestation of the engine failing, and subsequent getting either a new head or a rebuilt motor....was blamed on using fuel with too low an octane (less than 91) over a period of time by the dealer/shop....you can do a fast search....
IMO your tactics are right...do the simple, likely stuff first, then do the $$$ stuff that you have nightmares about!!

Good Luck!!
