2005 MCSa EML problem
2005 MCSa EML problem
Hi everyone. Just wanted to see if anyone can lead me to the right direction with this EML problem. I was driving my 05 MCSa normal as usual on a freeway here in Los Angeles when suddenly the EML light came on. I got off the nearest exit to check my owners manual and couldn't really understand it. So I just shut the engine off waited a bit and started it back up and the light went off. So I started to drive again and about 10 minutes later the light came back on.
Even before the EML light came on I have been getting a slight rough idle. The tach would go from like 700 to 1100, just up and down. Only during idle. My buddy said the rough idle could be because of a hose leak. But the EML light coming he has no idea. I've read that I should get the code for the error but I really do not want to go to the dealer for this. If anyone knows of good shops in the LA/ Rosemead area here in Southern California it would be great.
Incase you guys need to know mods I've done on the car to understand the problem a bit better here it is.
JCW exhaust and CAI
ALTA 17% SC Pulley Reduction
and the rest is just cosmetic changes.
The car has about 75,000 miles. The Pulley reduction was done about a year ago with no ECU reflash. I just did the ECU reset where you do it manually through the center console trip button.
I hope somebody can nudge me in the right direction. Thanks!

I just had that happen on my 2006 MCS with far fewer miles.
Do you have a code reader? They said mine had a 16522 bypass valve interrogated fault memory and a fault of 1688. They checked the intake for leaks and didn't find any. Then checked both pressures sensors (and they were ok). They replaced the bypass valve and that took care of the problem.
I know that is a bit vague, but that's all that was written up on my receipt. Hope this helps.

Get yourself a Scan Gauge to read the codes (unless someone recommends a better product that I don't know about...) Its definitely handy for when we don't want to bother getting the car to a $tealer.
I haven't seen that happen on our car

you can go to any Autozone and they will read out the codes for you FREE.

Well, I came home after a 2 week vacation and all of a sudden the EML light is off. I drove around for about 50 miles today and the light is MIA. I will go to autozone and see what code pops up. If something has to be done than I will head over to west coast mini.
thanks for the help everyone. I'll keep everyone posted on what the problem was. Hopefully it's no biggie.

Yeah, i would double check. Something triggered the light in the first place so just b/c the light is not on, that doesn't mean the problem is 'gone'...

Actually, Autozone doesn't do that anymore - at least here in CA. I found that out last year when I wasted my time driving there.
