Need New Battery for My 2004 MC

The battery for my 2004 MC just died and needs replacement. What are the current replacement batteries that will provide an exact fit without any modifications. My research has come up with the NAPA 7547BAT (@$110), although I have read that some people have had a fit problem with this particular battery while others have not. The NAPA dealer tells me that his computer lists a different model: 7526R. The other battery that is supposed to be a perfect fit for my car is the AC Delco 47-6YR (@$121). Any replacement battery infomation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Mine is 2003 MC and I have AC Delco 47-6YR. it was a perfect fit. I'm not sure about the differences between 2003 and 2004, though. I guess there's no difference between 2003 and 2004, but 2005's are different.

The Optima 34r is a direct replacement and has better specs than either of the batteries you are looking at. I used the Red Top but if you regularly run your battery down, you should see if the Yellow Top comes in a 34r.

Either would be more expensive than what you are looking at but well worth the price in my opinion.

Thanks for the info. Will the 34r fit in my battery compartment, or do I have to modify the holding clamp? Also, does it fit under the plastic cover?

The 34R is a fit for a MCS that has its battery in the boot. It will not fit in a Justa Cooper.

I believe Batteries Plus handles a battery that will fit your Cooper.

Just an idea

I have an 04 MCS and I am due for a battery soon.
I noticed that Walmart has the group 47 battery for $75, but I am not sure if there are any mods needed.

You may want to check it out.....

Hope this helps.....

This thread may be helpful. Also add comments to the thread when you
find a battery that does or doesn't fit the MC.

From what I have been able to gather a group 47 battery will be a drop in fit.

I put a group 34R Optima 800 cca in my MCS. It fit well, but I needed to put a spacer under the hold down bracket.

I just bought an '04 S. I've looked the battery over on all sides except the bottom. How do I tell how old the battery is? It is a "Mini" battery. Do I assume it is original after 6 years? Can't hardly belieive that. Do the numbers on top of the battery have any significance? Thanks for any help.

There should be a date code on one of the sides of your battery. My guess is that the battery is at least 3 years old. I say this because there was a recall of the 2004 Mini batteries.

Look closely on the top of the neg. terminal of your OEM battery. There will be a date code stamped into it showing the week and year of mfg., e.g., "13 03" meaning the 13th week of 2003.

Bought my replacement battery for 04 MC at O'Reilly Auto Parts. Group 47, 72 months for $90.00. Added a 3/8" spacer in bottom of battery box but other than that is an exact fix for everything. Battery is made by East Penn (Deka).

Thanks for the help. That date on the neg terminal indicates 05/04. Hard to believe that the battery is going on years old. This car came from Utah and is now in Phoenix. Batts here usually last no more than 3 years, so I guess I better plan on replacing this one before summer. Thanks again.
