So I am getting little worried. We just bought an 05 cooper (R50) with 5spd manual. 45000km or 28000 miles. I have been reading horror stories about the mini transmission problems and the cost repairs ($8000.00). Is this something I should be worried about!!? I am now considering selling the car?! What is the percentage of problems with this. Will I be able to reach 100,000km on this car without having to worry about this issue?

Most of these discussion are about the CVT, not the 5 speed.
Also having an 05 is better than the earlier 5 speeds, I think that would be the Getrag.
So unless you have a problem now you really should not worry.
