 Yes, there have been issues here and there with certain build dates but for the most part, they are not huge issues...

Just poke in and out of the different forums and you can read up on things. Congrats on the ordering of your new MINI... You'll love it

Chow!

the biggest variable is how good is your dealer. I have a first generation 02 MCS, some problems but with the right dealer it doesn't matter, with the wrong one it is a nightmare. Go hang out in the service center, if they won't let you, clue number one. Talk with the customers getting service, if they are happy you will be happy, if they are pissed off, guess what...

Keep in mind that reading these forums will exaggerate how many problems the MINI seems to have. The problems are relatively few, especially compared to other cars, but the ones that do come up generate a lot of discussion on this site. For every person posting to complain about a problem, there are many more who are enjoying their cars problem-free. I've got 11,000 miles on my Cooper in the last year, and not a single problem. MINI continues to improve upon the car and address the problems that previous buyers have experienced.

Order one! You won't regret it.

If you expect high-end luxury refinement, the MINI will have problems. There are a few minor recalls, but every other vehicle on the road has them too. Overall, I think everything has been exaggerated and blown out of proportion and context.

eclx3- From where I sit the MINI has been no different than any other new car I've ever owned.
We have an MCS - 15K miles in 9 months.
Only problem has been a bad wiring harness. Dealer fixed - no prob.
Others have had a hard time with some things.
But hey, welcome to MCO, and I hope that some of the problems that others have had do not infect your new ride.
Happy motoring, Woody

I felt like you before I got my MCS.

I got mine back in the summer of 2002 so I knew I had a first year model and could expect a few problems. And I had a few. But nothing the dealer didn't fix for me. The easiest fix was a rear hatch lock that was begining to fail. 10-min job. The longest was a water-pump O ring that failed, he had to order the part so that took a weekend.

But with a good dealer you know you are going to be take care of. Check out the dealer ratings (see 2nd link under features to the left!).

I am very happy with my MINI. I think it is a very solid car and would not hesitate to make the purchase again. (except I'm planning on keeping it forever anyway!)

Lots of our MINIs (including mine) have been absolutely problem free...although some have had issues. But even most of those who post about problems state that they still loves their MINI! IMO, if you really think a MINI is the car for you...go for it! If you happen to have a glitch...sort it out. This car is worth it!!!
