Okay, here's a challenge. I am looking for advice on a aftermarket exhaust that offers performance advantages, but one that is only slightly louder than stock. I cannot deal with the drone at highway speeds...any advice?

Thanks

Any of the aftermarket exhaust offers more performance in horspower, just 1 to 2 hp, and for what you say about a louder exhaust you should stay with the original, If you have to much money to spend for 1 or 2 hp for 600 usd at least, and you dont take more sound, why you should do it.

that is my personal opinion.

Ricardo,

I'd be interested to see where your dyno info came from.

virafp,

It sounds like the Borla Street system may work for you. The system gives modest power gains without changing the exhaust note much at all.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Nice to talk to you randy, you are really great.

My info was publicated on european car magazine, on the tuners garage, about 4 months ago, they tested magnaflow and supersprint, they tested on same conditions, firs the magnaflow and the the supersprint, bacause they hade to weld something for this last one, and the numbers where there, they even said that BMW enginners made a fantastic job putting together an amaizing exhaust. I will try Scaning the articule and posting it.

For what I can see is a lot of money to spend it on 1 or 2 hp and torque gain at hi rpm´s.

I don´t know if this articule is right but I asume that european car magazine is a serious publication on cars.

Ricardo,

That article info was retracted by European Car in the next issue. They will be reporting the new info in an upcoming issue.

I can tell you from the testing we have done here that you can get power from an exhaust system alone.

Thanks for the compliment (blush)!

Randy

Randy is right, EC screwed up the procedures somewhere, as I heard it too from several sources.

The truth is that attaining accurate dyno figures from OBD II Cars, especially one with the active safeguards of Supercharged Mini is tricky business and can take several hours to do correctly.

You just can not change parts, throw a car up on a dyno, and believe what you get.

And in the end you wind up with are only empirical evidence to help you make educated decisions.

Even OEM Manufactures have been known to messed up HP Ratings ; if you can only remember recently what happened with Mustangs and Miatas.

In the long run, It is survival of the fittest as far as exhaust systems and any performance part go.

You, the end consumers, usually talk among each other and chose the correct winners and losers; hopefully!

I z you guyz have ways of making me talk

Ok I will confess, it was sort of a surprise from our builder in Germany and he is very proud, of it; so much so that he called me on the phone at home on a Sunday at said
"tomorrow will gtz an xaust for ze copper s; zith xhaust and it very great!
You must install it on you perzenal car directly, and call me a home a directly ant tell me what you think"

I love it!

Everybody that sees it loves and wants one!

There is nothing else like since no corners were cut to save money.

Handsdown, the Coolest Cooper S Sound any where PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!

Also, the most fun I have ever had installing a Exhaust stems it hangs and fit perfectly.

Yes, I was wearing sandals Kent if you are listening?

It is the S version of our popular Cooper exhaust.
http://rspeed.net/mini/item.asp?dept...cat=2?=M20-105

So Why is it not available?

1. We had not persued it because I felt the market for Cooper S Exhaust systems was overly saturated from the beginning.

Realize that I am known to have consistemnt spurts of Marketing Myopia much to my own hindrence.

2. But possibly biggest reason for holding it back has been the currency situation of very strong Euro and a Weak Dollar.

Unlike big corporations and auto makers we could not do any hedging, even though I predicted that Euro would rise the way has; mostly due to the current geo-political situations...........

Means we would have to sell it for about $795.00 to $850.00 which means it is not price competitive.

I am only happy that we imports a large quantity of our fast moving cooper exhaust before the euro got to expensive.

So I watch the financial indicators each night hoping for a strengthening of the dollar so I can buy a bunch of cool exhaust systems.

I will likely make my decison on importing them before the end of the month???

I highly recommend the Quicksilver exhaust, for the very reasons you mention, and then some.

The exhaust note is deeper and a little louder, but it does NOT have that annoying drone on road trips.
In addition to that, it saves 20 lbs. over the stock unit and is made of stainless steel with a very long
warranty (27 yrs.) To see a unit, go to the faq section at Mini2.com, where they have comparisons
and pictures.

I have one on my 03 MCS, and it's perfect for me, and with the large oval single exhaust pipe, it looks
really nasty. Claimed hp increase is 5 to 7, but who knows for sure? Anyway it's really necessary if
you put in an aftermarket intake kit, which is my next mod.

The USA distributor for Quicksilver is Mini-Madness in Portland, OR.

I agree with Joe, I've been by and licked my lips over the unit, very nice and the
sound is in line with the rest I have heard.

Leave it to RSpeed to try and get the cost down for their clients. Good Job!

Anyone in the Atlanta area you got to drop buy, they love people to wander around
the shop while they work, ask questions, just hang out, if your around durning
lunch, grab a bit and eat and chat with them, Hay what else you got to do "Work".

Free knowledge, good conversation, just make sure Joe keeps his shoes on.

Later, Kent
