Here is one for you.
My friend has a wrecking yard and he says that the Mini motor looks just like the Neon.

Please use the search function, it's been debated to death already.

It's close but no cigar! The neon motor is about 4 inches longer. The cam is belt driven on the neon,and the mini is chain driven. The motors are similar but nothing of significance will interchange.

The home-market Neon has more displacement ... it is different.
But the export-version (like they send to Europe) is the same 1.6 we have in ours.

Yes, it's basically the same as the Euro version Neon, but basically! It's has been changed much though, dont exactly know what, but it's not really a neon motor, it's been changed some.

I thought the Euro spec Neons were 1.8 liters? (at least the first gen Neons were)

All three of my Neons are 2.0 liter (one SSC racecar, one parts/winter car/one for sale)

If you're interested in mods, here's a link that covers all the Neon engine permutations. May not directly help you with the MINI, but it is interesting;

The engine was designed for both the euro-spec Neon and the MINI. The 1.6 and 2.0 are not the same block

Well yes and no. Yes part being that the engine block 1.6 L is shared with the European Neon and no it is not at all the same on the inside for the MINI Cooper S. All the internals, pistons, rods, crankshaft are forged the valves are different material plus other important differences. I once had a link as to all the differences but here is a link be sure to read the drivetrain part.

Here's a link to Tritec, check out the awards, MCS engine in top 10 of the world.

This is one tuff little engine.
