DIY CVT fluid change
So far, getting this to communicate with the 2008 R52 has been futile, running DCAN.exe got the Kcan set up, but I'm getting nowhere with inpa or dis/gti. . I've made sure microsoft framework. Net is running, turned off firewall , not sure how to disable Windows Defender, using Win 10 64 bit, only other program installed is Chrome. .. still no indication it's identufied the ecu.. .. ugh
Do you have INPA commincating with it successfully? INPA doesn't require running the virtual machine, and you can actually reset the adaptations with it too. I would start there and see if you make any progress getting INPA to communicate with the car.
It's communicating with my 2004 R53 manual. It showed my Vin, so it reads the ECU
Setting the mode for the cable is tricky, you have very little time after connecting cable to ecu.
for trans all it shows is "Aisin' ...both on the 08 R52 cvt, and my 04 r53 getrag

It sounds like yours works differently than mine. I usually plug the USB cable in to my laptop and it doesn't matter how long I wait to plug in to the OBD port, it will always show up. I mainly use INPA, but did use DIS to program a new key a few years ago. Did you try contacting the Bcables people? If they're not helpful, check out the BMW forums - a lot of folks over there have a lot of coding experience with this software and dealing with the issues that come up related to no connection.

Ok, read a lot of threads on changing CVT fluids but not the filter.
why change the filter? The main reason I go in to change the filter is for a heath check this will tell a lot of things, some normal, some potentially damaging the unit beyond repair.
any way back to the filter, it seems like most the thread here say to drop the subframe to get access to those 3 10mm bolts next to the frame rail, well here is the skinny your shop won’t tell you and you will probably change the filter every time.
set the car up on jack stands, I’m not going to get in to detail on the fluid change as most threads a good.
simple, support the engine with a jack on the pan and bell housing(be carful) aluminum is soft. Remove air filter box and remove the transmission mount main bolt, jack engine up about 1”, remove the 3 pan bolts, a 1/4 socket and swivel will get around the splash cover bracket. Lower the engine and remove the pan.
simply revers order to reinstall and follow the refill process.
Hope this helps
