Throttle error codes..?
Throttle error codes..?
Hey all!
Had something happen this morning, wanted to get thoughts on it. (I have my own ideas, but second opinions always help!)
All weekend, the engine was running fine - there was absolutely no indication that anything was going to happen this morning. Filled up last night, reset my MPG-o-meter. Was doing really well last night and this morning - average 35MPG. On the drive to work this morning, I cruised about 70MPH non-stop for ~30 miles. Getting off the interstate, push the clutch in and the engine dies.
Restart it, it's in limp mode (SES and EML lights on). Pull into a parking lot and get three codes: P0638, P1688, and P1125. After clearing them and restarting the engine a couple times (of which, a few times it stalled after starting) the EML light went out - SES stayed on. While idling, checked the codes, all were gone except for P1125.
Finishing the drive to the office (~5 miles thru residential streets) as long as the EML light didn't return, she drove normally. As soon as the EML light would come on tho, she'd go into limp mode. (The SES light was always on.) When the EML light would come on, the P0638 code re-emerged. Various things would activate it, tho I missed every time it came on save for one - letting off the gas, clutch in (engine spinning down to idle) it popped on 'round 2k RPM. To fix it, I would have to stop and restart the engine 2 or 3 times. Then the EML light would extinguish and she'd run fine.
The last time before getting to the office, while trying to get the EML light to go out (so I could go faster than 20MPH on a 60+MPH road) she idled VERY rough and slow, under 500rpm. I'd want to say she wasn't firing on all cylinders, but as soon as I stepped on the pedal, she's spin up and seem perfectly fine.. until I released the pedal.
So, doing research on the codes, I think I know what everyone will say, but want to see if I'm missing anything. Yes, she has 213k miles, No, she hasn't had any work done recently - the latest was a new alternator back in January.
Thoughts?

This is caused by the inlet pipe which connects to the supercharger.
This pipe is for better performance. I had this problem, the inlet pipe was cracked and had to be replaced.

I'm having a similar problem, haven't gotten the codes yet. Here's the wierd thing with mine, it only happens when I'm maintaining a constant speed. If I accellerate hard and coast, no limp mode. If I try to maintain a steady speed,...limp mode (SES, DSC and EML lights on). Push in the clutch, restart, SES stays on, others go out, runs fine.
However, if I have cruise control on the problem doesn't occur. I'm guessing the potentiometers on the throttle body are at fault. Would that explain why cruise control is fine, but foot pedal triggers it?
Sorry for the thread jack, I'll post the codes when I get them.
Codes 1686 and 2138 came up. Is the potentiometer on the accelerator itself? I'll post up if I figure it out, good luck with yours.

Don't know why I never posted what I found, but perhaps this will help some people -
This is for a Non-S - Justa-cooper. With ya'll's S's, it may be different!
After buying a replacement throttle, I removed the air box and battery to get to the throttle.
After the airbox was removed, I found that the wiring harness, which has it's main plug to the driver's side of the air box was pinched under the transmission mount. (It should be routed over the tranny mount, between the battery box and the air box.
After getting the wiring harness back around where it should have been and doing an inspection, all wired appeared fine, issue never came up again.
If you've replaced yout throttles and it issue is still there, then it's in the wiring or your pedal potentiometer.
Good luck.
