Foot on gas pedal yet nothing happens...

After having replaced the plugs, coil, and Map sensor mine still won't take hardly any throttle. However, whenever I try to give it some gas one or two things will happen. Push down on the gas pedal and then absolutely nothing happens for a few seconds and then BAM! The car recieves all the gas at once and takes off like a bullet. Then there is the other times when you're trying to merge onto the interstate and you punch it hard to get out there and you're are thrown into limp mode! All the lights come on and there you sit doing about 5 mph with a huge semi truck that's traveling around 85mph getting ready to slam into the back of you. It makes the car not so much fun to drive. BTW it also yo-yo's all the time that you aren't in limp mode I am wondering if this is yet another bad BPV story? If so then Detroit tuned here I come.

try taking the throttle off and cleaning it with throttle cleaner and a tooth brush. not saying this is the problem, but throttels can get pretty caked up in oil/carbon sludge.

Typical codes

Yeah, however, this has been going on for 8 months or so and I had a code reader put on at local parts store and now I forgot where the read outs are. They were blaming the map sensor, bad injector and the other common codes whenever this type of behavior takes place. I really think that you guys are right from what I have heard on here. It's got to be either the sticky TB or the BPV. I'm going to try to clean up the TB today to see what the results are from that.

Cleaned up TB

Ya know JHUD, I went and bought myself some TB cleaner from the local parts store and my dad and I took the MINI apart today and found it was caked in carbon. We used the cleaner and tooth brush. It seems to have fixed about 90% of the problem. Whenever I step on the gas something actaully happens besides being thrown through the window or going into limp mode.

Thanks...

I'm confused... how does the throttle body get like that? Where do the carbon deposits come from?

Mine's like new after 50,000 miles...

I had the same problem about a 2 years ago when i first bought my car. It wasnt quite as bad as yours but i basically took nearly the whole darn engine apart cleaning and replacing when i bought it and found that when i cleaned the throttle ( body sorry ) it made a huge difference.
The throttle gets caked up on all cars. some take longer than others but minis seem to be very bad for this. you should see a slight improvement in MPG as well. Glad i could help

Right back at cha!

So, here we are the wife and I going for a little down town drive here in beautiful 80 degree weather Fayetteville when as we come to a stop at the traffric light my MINI starts the rough idle the EML light comes on and I'm popping and sputtering my way off the street, so that I can restart the car. Once restarted he's running fine again. I didn't know that MINI's came complete with gremlins.

from blow -bye ; some makes it to the back of the tb when you shut the tb . think it's when the bp valve opens and the residual from high pressure lingers on the tb surfaces . eventually coating them .
