maybe a coincidence...

Had same driver side window issue, and rolled down the window, held switch, and rolled up, holding switch, and it seem to work. We'll see for how long

I can't decide if I have same problem that y'all are having so I will just describe what is happening to my MINI. In the cold, only when it is sub-freezing, the windows will fail to roll down when I open the doors and then closing is a challenge. I had this problem last year during the really cold spells here in Boston, but have never had this problem before. For the first three years of my MINI's life, it was kept in a garage in Texas so this is definitely a cold-related issue. This morning the window didn't roll down at all when I opened the door but when I pressed the window switch inside the car, I could hear the window motor briefly trying to operate but the window didn't move. Keeping the door open with the engine running seemed to help but I was wondering if anyone had a better idea. This evening, after leaving my MINI in full sun all day, the window motor was a little slow at first but it worked and the temperature was about 23F.

I suppose what I'm wondering is if it's related to moisture freezing the window to the rubber frame and the motor being so cold that it simply needs to warm up before it is operational. Thankfully, the window seems to be pretty resilient since it hasn't broken yet but I'm worried that I'm going to break the window at some point.

Dealing with this same issue on my MCS (only 3 months old btw) ... The trick with holding the window switch worked for one day then the problem was back again. Same triggers too... Really cold last night -50° when it started.

That's exactly what it is. The start-stop you hear the motor doing is a safety feature; it's primarily an anti-pinch feature but also helps keep you from forcing the window and breaking some part of the mechanism.

I seem to have just encountered this issue with my 2008 R55 Clubman
- Drivers-side window won't drop when opening door
- Drivers-side window won't auto-up
- When I manually hold to toggle to roll the window up, it'll go all the way up and then go halfway down

- It DOES auto-down
- Passenger-side is fine.

I tried the various manual-reset methods mentioned
- hold toggle up for 10 seconds
- hold toggle down for 10 seconds, then up for 10 seconds
- hold toggle down for 10 seconds, then up for 10 seconds, then down for 10 seconds.
I've tried these with both toggles at the same time as well as just the driver's side toggle. No effect :(

Did MINI ever come up with a real, permanent fix for this problem? Mine has done this for a very long time.
