Heated seats too hot on sidewalk package
Heated seats too hot on sidewalk package
Hi all
I have a really weird problem - on my 2007 Cooper S sidewalk package, the heated seats are too hot on either setting, and nearly burn my *** off. Seriously, it's so uncomfortable as to be unusable.
I talked to the dealer and they said that there was nothing to be done. Anyone have any advice on how this could be fixed? I am good with electronics so I could always insert some resistors into the circuit, or I was thinking of trying to increase the padding..
Any suggestions.

The dealer said there is no fix? Have them check the 2nd gen bulletins too. I don't remember if it was a 1st gen or 2nd gen car, but there have been threads about a resister being installed in the seat's wiring for overly hot seat heaters. It was done by the dealer.
Have the seat heaters always been too hot or just started doing that? If they just started, it could be some thing wrong with the heater (loose connection).

My seat heaters are too hot too on my 06, but I just turn them off after 5-10 minutes. By then the ambient temps are high enough that its comfortable. I don't use the seat heater as a way to keep warm, just as a way to knock the cold off...
There is absolutely positively a TSB on this, and parts from the dealer to make the seats less hot...

More along the same topic, is there some kind of circuit component that one could add to the seat heater circuit that would make the element heat up, cool slightly, then repeat in a sinuous manner?
Thank God! I thought I was the only one. It's like sitting on a volcano...I halfway expect hot lava to start flowing out from under the seat. (She's an '08 MCS)

Good info there in the comments section (they were trying for 120volt bear that in mind)
The heated seats in my 07 MCS are unbearably hot--even on the lowest setting.
Is there a factory fix for the too hot seat heaters for my 07 MCS? My dealer said the part numbers quoted above are for R53's. They are not aware of any fix for the R56.
Any thoughts?

Just go into your mini dealer and tell them that there is a bulletin on the fix.
All that is needed to do the job is a cable lead which you put in the middle of the connector under your seat to the heating element
61-10-0-152-025 is to reduce the heat
61-10-0-152-026 is to increase the heat.
If your car is still under warranty, you can go in a complain about this and they will fix it for you at no charge - they did it for me, and the result was perfect.
