Well I've somehow misplaced my Receipt, but I remember it saying "initializaiton", so I'm not sure if this will actually work or not...so far no issues.

Any New Fixes for the Window Dip Problem?

Our 2009 Mini Cooper with 5200 miles has just started experiencing the window dip problem where the driver side window will not complete close/seal when you open and close the door. Pressing the window in from the outside or raising and lowering the window from the inside will result in the window sealing properly.

It just started getting colder in our area (35-45 degrees). It appears that the window motor will not "dip" the window far enough down when the door is shut resulting in the top rear of the window hanging up on the roof molding. I'm hoping for a "one trip" fix from Classic Mini.

Other than the above mentioned problem, we are extremely pleased with our 2nd Gen Mini. We also owned a 2005 CVT
Regards,

The driver side window in '09 loaner car I had last week had "lost" its program even. No dipper, no auto up. Ugh. I am not looking forward to post-warranty years of going to the dealer for reprogramming! I hope they can FIX this issue before my warranty runs out. I wonder if this is a DIY option with the Minitechinfo site and the J2534 computer interface?

The driver side window on our '09 Clubman @ 10,000 miles is not dipping correctly when the door is opened. It may dip about 1/10", it's not really dragging on the top trim. Can't be good for the seal though. Tried holding the toggle 15 seconds in the down position and the same in the up position; didn't fix anything. Will wait until the next oil change to get "repaired" at the dealer.

The "Repair" for our Window Dipping Issue

Invoice (0.00) states the following:

"FRM Software Program and Code Control Unit Initialize Windows CHK
and Grease Door Harness per SI M51 01 08"

Note: The SA first indicated that the FRM module may need replacement. He then came back and indicated that it would need re-programmed (about a 2 hour process).

THE BENEFIT of THIS REPAIR

I was able to speak with our really good looking MA (Tiffany) for almost two hours Classic Mini is a great place with very helpful SA's and MA's.

NOTE: All the attempts for a self fix (holding the switches for this many seconds open/closed, etc. never worked for me.

NOTE 2: This window issue started right after I did not close the door all the way the first time. I wonder if the door dips then hits the frame which results in altering or finding a bug in the software program???

07 coooper (not s) I've had the footwell module replaced. In my case the window wouldn't go up and the car didn't see the door as closed, so I would have to take the key out of the fob to lock it. It took them over a week to do the work, and they put me in a vw rental car, with, you guessed it, broken windows.

real pita.

one of many reasons I hope someone totals my mini in a non-injury accident. This car will be a real nightmare out of warranty.

I just got my 09 Coop S fixed for this very same issue. Less than 4000 miles on it and the drivers side window would not dip when opened. When closing the door the window would catch on the roof and the door would not shut they did a software update its been fixed for a week. Hopefully no more window gremlins.

Personally, I'd never own another one (at least a Cooper S) out of warranty.

Pass side window dip and auto up trouble

My Pass side window would drop with opening the door, but not go up (door closed) also the auto up function stopped working.

For me the reprograming by holding the switch in the full down for 15 seconds and then full up for 15 seconds worked to restore the passenger side window dip function and auto up function. I had to do try it twice, first time ignition on, engine not running, the second time running. Interestingly the phone didn’t automatically sync with Bluetooth after this.

I had the dip problem on my drivers door. I checked the molding on the top part where the window closes into (or supposed to). It was all folded over - I straigtened it out and a day or two later the window dipped as normal. I tried the holding the switch in the open and closed position - rolled the window up and down. Maybe it "learned" what it was supposed to do. Any way I had three days of a non working window dipper - then I fixed the molding and it has worked for over a week now - Fingers crossed....

Oh while it wasn't working I found after opening the door I could push down on the window while the door was open so that when I closed the door the window would not be on the outside of the molding when the door was closed.

Crap!! Simone and I have been doing just fine. I got her in May, she has less than 4K on her, now the trunk door keeps spontaneously unlocking(for about a week and a half now), the driver side window won't dip (started today), and when I went to start her up today, she gave me the yellow car up on stilts pic with something about the battery having excessive discharge. She is going into the dealer's first thing Thursday morning. But my question is..should i be worried that all these things are going wrong with less than 4k??

Dropped Simone off early this morning. I am really hoping they can fix all the problems. Actually, for all the money I paid for this car, they BETTER fix all the problems!!

Got Simone back. The window was reprogrammed and works now. The trunk locking mechanism was malfunctioning because of a faulty seal in the handle. Water had gotten into the handle and corroded the mechanism. I just realized I forgot to tell them about the seatbelt

Its sad that you have SO many problems you "forget" to tell them all. It shouldn't be this way given the cost of these cars. My passenger window is acting strange...it doesn't one touch up when I do both windows at the same time. It will actually go up then down (or stop).

Reprogramming (a several hour process) fixed the problem on our 09 Mini. It's been several months and no problems. I tried all the self help programming procedures listed (Holding the switch, etc) without success.

I totally agree!! However, I got in this morning and noticed the seatbelt was correctly wound. I wonder if someone took it upon themselves to fix it??

Well this happened again to my girlfriend's car. It was working for about 8 months and now the cold weather has come again and it stopped working. We took it to mini, they had it for most of the day to reprogram it, and it's back now and working properly.

I'm really curious to see what they actually reprogram with the thing.

Took my 2008 in last week for the window problem and they needed the car for most of the day to reprogram, and did tell me that the new window fix was loaded. Windows now work properly.. but now have to take it back as the brakes are mushy after they flushed the brake fluid...one problem down, one new one to replace it!

I have my doubts about whether the window"fix" is a fix at all.

My '08 Clubman had the window-dip issue last spring, and they kept the car for the day and reprogrammed, and now the exact same issue has reappeared. This time I'm going to ask the dealer what this repair costs, and whether MINI will have a program to extend the warranty for this common defect.

Based on their answer I may decide to sell before my four year anniversary. I love my Clubman, but the inability of MINI to fix this and other glitches (like the sunroof opening issue) makes me very wary of owning a MINI once the warranty is up.

My fix did not include any parts replacement, but updating the code in the computer.. they indicated that there was a fix released in late October, so this along with a few other updates were done to my car..so far no window issues. If the last time you had the windows 'fixed' was in the spring, you should be able to get the new updates loaded for your car as well.
