Link here to a thread on another board that starts with a photo of engine sans logo.

Point of thread was to add the logo for $40 and some time.

For forty bucks, I'll be happy with the 'clean' look.

(A Peugeot logo might be tempting )

R55 and R56 MINI engines are built in Hamms Hall, England, based on a design engineered jointly by BMW and Peugeot. It is not a Peugeot built motor.

miniclubman:

According to the "Parts Content Information" on the window sticker (required by Department of Commerce), my 2009 MCSa has France as the "Country of Origin" for both the engine and transmission.

And there is a MINI logo on the engine (I took delivery 9/30/2008).

Good catch! Had to check mine. Mine lists France for the engine and Germany for the transmission. Interesting.

Follow this link http://www.bmw-plant-hamshall.com/ if you want to see where the engine was built. It ain't France. The Hams Hall BMW plant is the sole supplier of MINI petrol engines, according to their site. The raw castings may come from France, but the engine is built in England. All the engine parts that go round-n-round and up-and-down are manufactured and assembled in England. That makes it a British built motor, as far as I'm concerned.

miniclubman:

I followed the link. I don't see anything that mentions MINI engines built after 2006. They talk about the "new" MINI engines built in November, 2006. They never mention if they have shifted production after that date.

Please provide another link that indicates where the 2009 MCS engine is built. Until then, I'll rely on the window sticker. Thanks...

The engine is BMW designed. Puegot does the casting of the engine parts in France. The parts then get shipped to Hams Hall where they are assembled into engines.

Motormouth, per Wikipedia, you are correct. Not sure how they figure "Country of Origin" in situations like that...
