Fix for P0456?

Our 2006 MCSa threw this code a week ago. I know it is for "Evaporative emissions control". Have a couple of questions that weren't revealed through searching.

1. How do you fix it?
2. Is it caused by a specific part?
3. Since it is "emissions" related, is it covered under warranty? Anyone have direct experience with this being warrantied?

Car has 39k miles on it now so we are out of warranty. Thanks.

Call the dealer, I would think it's warranty, your under 3 years and 48K!!! Could be any number of small items like the oxygen sensors and so on, but let the dealer look it over.

oxygen sensor is a different code iirc.

I already called the dealer. Waiting on a call back (if I ever get one...).

I'm looking for input from others that have personal experience with this code.

They may sometime trigger a related code, just some experience I had with an older car. The techs will narrow it down for you. It's good that you got that code now and not later!
Call them back if you don't hear back from them soon.

Oh, there is a bunch of little thing it could be from evap. canisters to EGR valves. Your gas mileage should improve after the fix. It's something you would have had to do sooner or later in any car..

or just a loose hose.

I know it could be many things which is why I'm trying to research if there any known history about it already.

I'm not particularly trusting of the dealer and my warranty expired at 35k miles if I read the paper work correctly - hence question #3.

Your warranty is 4 years or 50k miles from date of purchase. Your free oil changes expire 3 years and 36k miles.
Does your dealer really have you leave a message so they can call back? Does'nt the service department have a call in number that you just set up a time and drive it in? I've never waited for a service dept to call back for an appointment. Is it a small dealer?

2 days. 2 messages. No call backs. Big dealer in SF area. I hate blindly making an appt w/o having any expectations of how long the service would take and wanted to confirm my warranty details. Perhaps I did have the warranty period confused with the maintenance. Thankfully.

Check if your dealer has a loaner car policy, I know ours does, we had to sign an agreement not to bring our pets in their car if we request a loaner during service!!

This was diagnosed as the evap canister aka charcoal canister.
