Knocking / Thumping Sound From Back...

I have a 2007 Cooper w/ automatic transmission. Pretty much since day 1 I hear a thumping / knocking sound from the back of the vehicle. I brought it to the dealership and they told me that another person stated the same thing but that they couldn't confirm it.

The thumping / knocking comes and goes. It happens when the car is cold and even after driving it for awhile.

Who else has this issue and does anyone know what it is and how to get rid of it?

Here you go. You're not alone. Sounds normal:

I hear it after I park usually. I believe it is the exhaust expanding/contracting as it heats up and cools down. Nothing to worry about.

Do you hear it while driving or after shut down? If after shut down it's normal, someone said it was the pressurized fuel tank depressurizing...
