So my Turbo Died.....

I was driving my car yesterday at about 45-50 mph accelerating off the stop light and randomly my car LURCHED and stalled out. In the middle of traffic.... So there were honks and yells all around me thankfully no one hit me. So I restart the car and now my turbo isn't operating. No more pretty spooling of the turbo no more power. It just shut down. So I pull into a gas station and restart the car. Still no turbo. So now I'm calling Hendrick Mini freaking out because my car just had a stroke. They say bring it in immediately. So in short, I'm driving a GIANT Chevy Equinox and I don't know if my car is going to be ok. Not too mention I am a little nervous about whether the warranty will cover it due to the fact that I have an aftermarket intake on the car. Someone just tell me it will be ok!!!

If you still have the stock intake, you should switch it out before it goes into the dealer.

Don't worry...

it will be alright.. Just report the thread to the mods and they'll move it for you.

As far as the turbo and the dealer, good luck!

Matt

i specifically asked about that kind of thing prior to purchase. my MA called the service guy over and he said they will only not cover aftermarket parts if they fail. one mod will not void the whole warranty. i used an aftermarket CAI as an example. he said unless the turbo damage is directly attributed to the CAI (sucking a part in or something like that) then the turbo and motor will still be covered. so best of luck to you man.

OP might be out of luck.... Dealer has the right to deny warranty because air intake is directly related to the turbo and engine. If it was a aftermarket foglamps it wouldn't matter.

It really depends on the dealer...

TECHNICALLY, they can't deny the service unless they can show that the aftermarket part led to the failure.

PRACTICALLY, they can do anything they want and no one can do anything about it.

Exactly. It can become a very ugly war with the dealer or an expensive learning experience.

I forgot to update when I got it back sorry guys. It turns out the tubing had poped out.(Because of the aftermarket intake) But they covered it all. She told me we figured it would be easier if we called and said it was free rather than calling and saying your warrenty is void. So what they did was reconnect the hosing. (Still not sure what hose it was) Then they worked with the ECU to try and make it so the check engine light doesnt come on with the MAF and to make sure the car would run properly with the Alta intake. Ultimatly I am EXTREMELY inpressed by Hendrick Mini in Charlotte, NC. And I would def. reccomend them to anyone interested in getting a Mini just for the service aspect alone.

Figured it wasn't the actual turbo itself that died. Loosing boost does not equal losing the turbo. Lots of things can cause loss of boost.

So, your turbo didn't die. Your car just conveniently turned into a standard Cooper. Sorry (slogging off to whence I came)...
