Your electronic key fob contains a 'manual' key that slides out (push the silver button) and this can be used in key slot of drivers door, no battery power required.

The key should immobilize the sensors.

Convenience Access is something I'll always have.
Keep a spare battery in the fridge.
It's a generic CR2032 and is common.
They're in my Mini key fob, bathroom scale and cigar humidor hygrometer.

As for the battery, my new BMW battery died in six months. The dealer tried to claim I didn't put enough miles on it. I put a stop to that crazy talk.

If the battery is dead then nothing works, you must have left the doors open if someone got into your car.

My dealer killed my battery and replaced it while it was being serviced and they also tried to tell me I didn't put enough miles on the car and that I should get a trickle charger... Right.......

There is the possibility that the thief used a slimjim to open your doors. I haven't tried to get into my car with one but back when I was a repo guy, I could get into any car within 30 seconds. I don't imagine that Minis are any different.
