Replacing the battery is simple. 20 mins or less.
First thing.....buy a Bentley manual and get familiar with your car.
Also, websites like https://www.penskeparts.com/ will provide parts diagrams.

I get a little scared if someone needs help changing a battery.
It doesn't really get any easier then changing a battery.

But wth, I am guessing you are here to learn. Remember first do a search
on "replacing a battery" here on the forums. We don't like when people don't
first do searches as this just pollutes the forums.

Take the bolts off that hold down the cover over the battery. Slide off the battery cover. Remove the hold down nut and bracket on the front of the battery. Remove the battery and replace it. Pull off the negative lead first when removing and put on the positive on first when installing the new battery. Then reverse order to finish the job.
If your new battery is vented hook up the vent if not put a piece of tape over it to keep crap out and zip tie it to the side.

If you go with a sealed battery like a Optima Red Top 34R - it is a great fit and
no need to vent it.

No need to register the new battery with the car - some say to do it - Pretty sure it isn't required but may affect power management.

Yep . . . Everything that Timski said . . . except the last thing that Timski said.
Search 'Intelligent Battery Monitor' or scroll about 30 threads down to see if you need to register the new battery. A few of us just went through this. And if she's a garage queen, get a Deltran - www.batterytender.com
Maybe consider an AGM rather than the puny OEM?

Here is a great battery replacement DIY and the last figure (figure 12) goes over how to properly register it. If the battery is not registered, the charge program will be incorrect, shortening battery life.

The pics of the negative cable terminal end (Figure 7) seem to show an IBS system on the subject vehicle - thus requiring registration. If no IBS, then no registration, right?

Also, do AGMs require a vent hose? I thought not, but would appreciate correction if wrong.

Thanks

All batteries are fitted with a vent hose. They still emit gas.

The sensor comment is correct, on R56 models without an IBS registration is not necessary.
