Just took my 10 cr/mc to the dealer with some type of electrical gremlin. Was approaching the car, put the windows down with the key, that went fine. Got in the car, put the kkey in the car, absolutely nothing. No voltage whatsoever. Car was not hot, a short trip. Not a hot day, 85 degrees. for 20 minutes nothing. I got back in the car, tried it again and it started right up. What the heck is going on. Has anyone else had this problem? Dealership sadi they'd never seen this one.

I suspect either terminal connection (+/-) has come loose in the battery box compartment. Check and see if the connection cables are tightly put in the terminals before calling roadside assistance.

I have seen loose battery connections causing grief to other owners before.

Yes! This happened to me with my first Cooper. I'd been in to get some warranty work done (squeaky driver's seat), and I guess the tech undid the battery, so as not to deploy the airbags accidentally... Well, next day when I went to move the Cooper, all of a sudden no power! Flat-bedded it to the dealership, and it was a loose positive battery terminal connection!!!!

Cheers!

I'll give them a call and see if they diagnosed it yet. I hope that it's nothing more than a loose cable. Definitely was not a locked steering wheel, I always check that first thing. The key didn't even ding ding when I put it into the ignition!!!! No accessory setting on the key, no radio, no central locking, nary a volt to be had.

Gold stars to Cooper4us and Miniclo!! I'm happy to say you nailed it on the head, it was a minor item and not a huge electrical gremlin. Electrics are not my legerdomain I'm afraid. Glad it was that, thanks to both of you! Now back to motoring.......
