DME smoked

Cayon no way around it. I just installed a new dme on a customer with a 2003. it was smoked. Its exactly what you say same $ plus 2.0 labor and programming. Not really sure anything aftermarket for less to replace your
oem DME. I say put it on your card and pay a little @ a time.
Other than that. see what the guys who are racing theres on track if they run a oem or something different. Also. Speak to Jan @ RMW maybe he might know someone. Say you went to get a junkyard or used one. You would also the new the key module(EWS) and the key ring that goes around the the ignition switch. then with those 3 items it will work.
but not sure what it would cost may not be worth the $.

Good luck

Guido

Your right about the EWS and the DME, but the Torroidial coil(the ring around the ign. switch) is not needed. It only sends the key data to the EWS, and has nothing to do with determining if the key goes to the car. It wont care, put the wrong key in...it'll send that data too.

Also, do you carry around 2 keys..one for the ignition and the original for the door locks.

And to add one more thing, since all keys are matched to the EWS and the EWS is matched to the VIN and all keys must be ordered with the VIN. The customer must provide proof of ownership of that VIN and if after this install, he lost his key and couldn't provide proof of ownership he couldn't get another key.

Best bet is to get the right DME
