Loose hatch latch rattle

I've had this rear knocking rattle that I thought was just stuff in my boot until I noticed that the rear hatch moves quite a bit when closed. As mentioned in other threads, I loosened the rubber stoppers by screwing them out about a full turn and now the closed hatch is nice and snug, but I don't like how the rubber stoppers seem a little wobbly. I've also read about the electrical tape around the latch trick. Has anyone adjusted the latch mechanism itself? I'm thinking of moving it back to make it more snug.

Check the bottom edge where the hatch meets the bumper. Is there any evidence of impact? Mine rattles a bit, but it's also been hitting the bumper cover to the point where paint is missing. My rubber stops are all the way out.
