Software problem question?

Two weeks ago the ABS, Brake and DSC warning lights all went on. Last week I took the car to the dealer, they checked the brake fluid, wheel sensors and said it was a faulty DSC control unit and pump, a replacement unit was ordered and installed 5 days later.
They also needed to update the software for the new part. then a software problem. The service associate said “software was not installing fully” a PUMA case was issued and several days later its still not working, the car has the JCW tuner kit installed on it, the technician tried the CD that came with the JCW kit but that didn't seem to help. The latest from the service associate was Mini was writing special software to streamline the installation. My concern is that the problem is not fixed and somehow they are just by-passing or turning off some functionality to get the car out of the shop. The car spent 11 days in the shop as of today and have barely 2,000 miles on it and I recently installed the JCW kit that I had only one day!!! Is there someway of finding out if everything is up to date software wise and everything is working the way it come from the factory???

hmmm I would not think they would do that. Once you get it back, try disengaging DSC and check the light, also try the ABS by braking abruptly and see if it activates, disconnect the plug on the brake fluid unit and see if the light comes on. They should all work propperly.

Very weird. One thing to take into account is that since the R56 is fairly new, a lot of bugs may exist within codes, specially when installing new parts like the JCW. I had to get mine reprogrammed justo for getting the Rally Driving Lights. I cannot imagine there are many R56 with a JWC kit installed, so they may have found a bug and they are working on it.

HAHAHA God forbid! And also, BMW's service is neither the greatest nor the fastest! Sad but true. Hold tight and you will get your rocket sooner than you think!

The finance person trying to sell me on extended warranties kept saying how there are 16 computers in the car and any one of them cost way more than the warranty.

Well, that may hold true. Most of those computers are expensive. But I also think that if anyone of them is to fail from normal operation, it will do so long before your original warranty is up. I am in the automobile industry, electrical circuits specifically, and 90% of the failures come from the airbag control module after a crash!

scare tactics....

tell her if the computers are so unreliable maybe I should go ahead and seek a lawyer to get out of the car deal, might want to ask her manager if that is something they try all the time...telling a customer the car computers suck and you need this warranty...or maybe they should offer it free...

I mean my wife's KIA had a 10yr/100k warranty and I never lifted the hood except to change the oil and a headlight for 3 years....got 66k on my mazda and same...just oil, nothing else...are they telling you that mini's aren't rated for longevitiy..maybe I should take my money and go elsewhere...

bastages.

Honestly, about your car...tell them you want a new ECM. You feel the car is damaged goods by now and not OEM if they are wiriting new code for your vehicle. If it's not OEM under the hood and something goes wrong from here till you get rid of the car, how are they going to state it's not the new code you needed? Start bitching right now......honestly.

Also...if you have a payment...ask them to pay a month's payment for you...you haven't had the car to drive...start asking what they are going to do for you.

I agree. You should be compensated for the inconvenience they have caused you.
