Peeling Stripes

What's an effective way to "reglue" racing stripe edges? I have dealer-installed stripes that are starting to peel at one corner or it simply wasn't set well enough. I'm not taking it to the dealer just for that. Thanks. Greg

glue it

No, the dealer is close, I just hate dealing with them for almost anything, including scheduled service-plan items; I'd rather stick a pen in my eye. Just looking for a quick fix like gorilla glue or...???

Any sort of serious adhesive you're going to run into problems down the road when it comes time to remove the stripes. I don't know of any paint safe adhesive that's strong enough to stick, but will still release when you want it to. You could try asking in the detailing forum.

I think the dealer will replace it with a new one under warranty.

You could go by the Automotive paint supply store. Tell them what you have and offer to let them look at it. Depending on how much is coming up they will advise you on what to use. Another thing to consider, would be another smaller , 1/2 inch wide stripe, to lay along side the original stripe. Overlaying the new stripe where the old one is coming up. You could even use an alternating stripe color or widths. This will be something you may have to look through the book and find, then you will have to buy a roll of the stuff, so check the prices.

Idea number 2. Check with an RV dealer and see who they use to re-stripe their used RVs. Take it by and let them advise you what to do. A friend of mine does this and he always has lots of extra striping tape and supplies.

I had the dealer take them OFF at delivery. (Bought an in-stock Clubman S off the lot.)

I know go-fast stripes are popular among Mini owners, but was thinking about how bad it was going to look after a few years.

The salesman actually removed the stripes himself, with a hair dryer. He commented that it would be a LOT more difficult later.
