Squeal on start *oink**oink*

I'm having problem with my 2005 R53 manual. I've been having some noises coming from the clutch when starting out. It's been happening more and more frequently... here's what happens:

1. Came to a stop
2. Rev to ~1.5-2K RPMS
3. Let out clutch
4. EEEK

It's just a quick, sudden sound that sounds like metal on metal.

Oh car has 52k miles on it.

Any input?
Thanks!

Maybe its coming from the clutch pedal linkage. My only speculation.

Does it make the sound while in neutral when you rev it more? I've only heard an EEK when my belt was slipping.

My guess is that your pilot bearing is worn

When my original throwout/release bearing went out, it felt rough and grindy. It didn't make any noise though. But I guess things can fail differently. Yours might be seized up and rubbing on the pressure plate before starting to spin.

A vote for "throw out bearing".

Lots of people have encountered this exact issue, myself included, and the only solution is the removal of the transmission to replace all the clutch components. If I were you, I'd wait until your clutch wears out before you go about investing in the parts and labor to fix the problem.

Ya it does it when starting out. It feels like it seizes for just an instant and makes a noise than is fine. It is really random when it happens though

I think I have the same thing. Only does it when the clutch is cold. Like mornings or whatever. You let it out carefully and it doesn't do it much or at all. Let it out like normal and it squeeks for a second. I was told I have a glazed clutch/flywheel. I will wait untill my clutch is shot (only have 50k miles) and then get a new clutch, flywheel and LSD.

Ya it seems to do this while the car is still cold. Just hope it doesn't turn into anything too bad/expensive

If you start to notice it more frequently, as in almost everytime, you will want to get that fixed ASAP. I actually swapped my clutch components to attempt to fix the problem, but even after swapping all the components it continued to occur, albeit more frequently. I didn't think of it as a big issue at the time since it only occurred when I started moving from a standstill, just as it did before, and I didn't have the time, nor the funds, to have it done again. I let it go for a little over a year before I decided to have it replaced again... course this time I decided on it getting professionally done... well I got the dreadful call later that day when I dropped it off that my transmission needed to be replaced because the throw-out bearing failed and started to chew into the input shaft.

I know I'm not the only one who had this problem, but I just wanted to bring it up so you pay attention to how often it occurs. You'll be fine if it only occurs when cold or randomly, as mine did that the first time and I inspected my transmission and found no problem with the shaft... just pay attention if you start to notice the squeal more frequently... that could be a sign of bigger problems.

Old thread...

Yes I agree with the above. I am having the "squeal" coming out of the flywheel, randomly, when the car is cold.

Also my pressure plate springs are noisy again, prompting to a "farting" noise every time the clutch pedal is depressed.

My car has 51K miles and its already on its second clutch. First time @ 25K miles covered under warranty.

I am beyond disgusted with the OEM clutch and Flywheel components. Good thing I purchased the MINI Extended service agreement that does cover the entire clutch kit.

Car is booked at the dealer for early next week. The clutch is working fine, but I am not going to wait for a catastrophic failure to take it in. Better safe than sorry.
