What's that "thing" over the clock?

Maybe I'm stupid (...I do have sporadic bouts), but what is that "sensor" thing above the clock. I don't have a sunroof...so its a single oval plate with little slats in it. I was looking through my literature and the only thing I saw coming from there was a crash sensor thing. Tell me that's not what it is....anybody know???

Handsfree

The last thing I heard was the use for that little grille was for a handsfree cell phone mic. The audio goes through the stereo speakers. I do know the stock headunits ('03) have an input provision for the audio already.

Thanks...I'll sleep better tonight. My daughter asked me what it was and (...after 6 months of ownership) all I could say was, "Uh, I don't know." Kinda embarassing. Glad its not the thing I thought it might me...like it picks up cries for help or something?

I resisted the temptation to rush right into this thread and say that the 'thing' over the clock was the roof.

I see it was answered already for me by proxy!

I thought it was part of the motion sensing alarm.

The motion sensor for the alarm is located below the antenna in the back. All '03s have the mounting box for it regardless if it's installed or not, '02s have the box there only if the alarm is installed.

I tell my passengers that it is the mic for the voice activated tuner. I speak a radio station call sign into it while using the MFSW to change the radio station with my left hand. Works every time.

Have some fun with it.

That is truly evil, Andy. I'll have to try it on the next unsuspecting soul.

I was told by the MA that this was a sensor for the A/C. Never paid it much mind after that. Hope this helps.

No auto AC in mine, I'll use the unnamed sensor in mine as an imaginary mic for when I talk to my MINI.

I'm pretty sure the A/C sensor in the little infrared "button" in the center of the dash (above big speedo). As for the sensor at hand, I don't know either. I do like the radio station trick.
