Tire pressure light is on.

I tried to reset it by holding key in position 2 and holding down button, but the light always stays on. From reading posts I can tell my 03 must have sensors that measure tire rotaion. Is it possible one or more tires is missing the sensor and that is why the light stays on? How can I find out if all my tires have the sensor and it is functioning? My DSC light stays on also, but I am going to play with it and see if I can get it to shut off(turn DSC on).

I'm having a similar problem with my Flat Tire Indicator. The lamp never goes out upon a reset. I've been checking my tire pressure ever couple of days and they appear to be fine. The manual suggests the Flat Tire Indicator system has malfunctioned.

is your DSC/ASC light on? If it is then there definately is a problem with a wheel spin sensor. Thats how mine is.

The tires do not have sensors. It reads off the same ring as the ABS- found on the half shafts. With tires at the right pressure, If you hold the reset switch for the RF light then turn the key to on the light should go from blinking to steady on- you may have to drive for a few miles before it will turn off. If the DCS light is on you have a sensor problem and that needs to be fixed before it will reset. Hope this helps

Ok, I wonder if I can visually inspect it or check the sensor myself. Is the sensor accessible.

The sensor is the same one used for the ABS system (the RR sensor is used for the vehicle speed). It is important to make sure the tire pressure is good in all four tires. The system works by detecting differences between wheels. Check the tires when cold and adjust as necessary; when all are equal take the car for a ride and hold the learn button at the base of the hand brake, the idiot light illuminates, release the switch and continue driving at a steady pace, may have to be over 20MPH. The light goes out and the system is reset. There is also a TSB regarding rust on the sensor connectors as well as the ABS control module electrical connectors. If this is the case clean with the appropriate cleaner and try again. Hope this helps.

My light stays on all the time. Even when I press the button it won't blink or change. I am guessing I have a sensor issue. I probably need to check the sensors themselves. How do I access the sensors? Where are they located? Do I need to remove the wheel to access them? Thanks for all your help everyone.

Pull the tires you will have a cable that runs into the wheel hub thats the sensor. Now trace it back it will come to the conn. this is the first place to look for dirty conn. Hope this helps

That will be a great help. The engine was changed before I picked it up and from what my friend said before they changed the engine those lights weren't on. I wouldn't be supprised if they disconnected a front wheel sensor and didn't reconnect it.

A faulty Steering Angle Sensor can also cause this.

where can I find the steering angle sensor? Maybe they disconnected it when they swapped engines.

Thanks for the diagram. Hopefully I can access it. I imagine it is under the dash or perhaps it is already going into the engine compartment since the sensor seems to be toward the bottom of the column.

Try this link if you still have questions on the location of the ABS pulse generator. Do you know someone with a BMW scanner? Would be nice to know the code and diagnose from there. Hope this helps and good luck.

I know this sounds a little silly but my MINI had a problem where the light went on and I knew the tires were fine and silly me hoped a very young MINI was not about to have a bunch of problems.

Pressing reset would turn the light off and right back on. Guess what was "wrong"? The switch was jammed - I took the car to MINI and while it was in the shop, I was checking out a MSC on the showroom floor. The in/out travel of that switch was twice mine. Confirmed by tech (supposedly replaced) that was my car's problem.

Happened again the other day - I just wiggled and worked the button till it unstuck from the 3/4 depressed position and it was fine.

I can blame mine on the canine passenger that walks across both seats up fronts sometimes; if you press reset in my car, occasional the button stays almost all down and that's enough to cause the lamp to light.

Would that you could be so lucky

I have reset my 03 MC's tire warning while both standing still and moving. Hold the button for a 5 count, release for a 5 count while light flashes, then press again, light goes out.

One thing to remember, it does not matter how much pressure (wheel diameter) is in each tire when you reset, all 4 could be different. What the system checks is a difference from the new set. Wheel hop under hard acceleration or braking can set it off. The system does not "know" that different pressure is in different tires. I run my rears 3-4 lbs higher than my fronts(cheap bigger rear sway bar) and the system does not go off.

I absolutely agree! When the system is in teach mode, you are actually educating the system as to what the reference should be...any discrepancies from what was taught will set it off. Also keep in mind that the system is not that accurate, the change in pressure has to be in the 20% or more range before a low tire fault is flagged. While that may be acceptable for run flat tires, a driver who has replaced the runflats for conventional tires may find themselves stuck despite a warning system. Naturally this applies to the early (passive) systems. I believe the newer systems have a pressure transducer incorporated into the tire stem or wheel that transmits the actual pressure to a receiver inside the car so many times per hour. This newer (active) system will be more sensitive and provide an earlier warning.

is there anyway to disable this light and never mess with the TPMS again?

I don't need it and I don't want it.

I decided to pull the button to inspect.

Someone had unplugged it and tucked it under the carpet.
Plugged it back in and the light is gone.

Why would someone unplug this? What good does it do? Some people should not work on cars.
