Rattles Thread
Exactly and it really pisses me off that the dealers, who can easily fix the rattles, act like that is how the car should be. MINI is either the most inept or uncaring car company I have dealt with since the 70's. I have had this bucket of bolts almost a year and just yesterday I got a card in the mail from Mini saying "We heard you will soon have a new Mini." Jackasses.
I was prepared for getting the same response you got but only had a good experience.
Update: I still have the resonating/buzzing/rattle sound coming from inside my steering column. I was right. They were not able to cure the issue. I did however figure out what is causing it. If I adjust the wheel up and down there is no issue, but in a certain position toward the driver the sound will then happen when going over a concrete/rough road surface.
If I had to make a guess it probably is some wire or something else inside the column that bends in/out when the wheel is adjusted for reach. I think I could possibly fix it if I knew how to get the steering column cover off. I suspect you just pull it off with your hands, but I'm not sure if it's screwed on. Anyone pull off the plastic covering on the R56 steering column?

Just to be fair they did replace some switches and junk inside the column. But that didnt' fix the issue. But I must agree the overall service experience has not been that great although they did win me over at the end.
Well I just noticed 2 new rattles and buzzes.
The rattle I now notice in my door when I go over light bumps (its annoying because its right in my ear so music really can't cover it)
The buzz I noticed in my headliner right where the upper toggle switches are (again right in my ear)...this one i notice occurring from the engine vibrations around 2000 rpm
I'm going in on tue anyway for an engine whistle, now i think i will add the door rattle and have them fix the secret compartment (they had to fix my dash rattle, but now the secret compartment scrapes the left air vent)
I feel annoying sometimes, but I drive a lot without the radio so I need certain rattles to be fixed...i know not all will and i know cars make noise, but some are driving me crazy cuz they are in my ear no matter what

I don't have a rattle, per se, but the one noise that drives me insane is a skittering/sliding noise somewhere up in my sunroof trim. It only happens when I take a turn, but even after feeling and looking all over the sill, I can't find anything loose that would cause the noise.
I have a 10" sub woofer in the boot. When the volume is cranked it makes something inside the hatch rattle...It's located right behind the license plate (no it's not the license plate rattling). This is only audible from outside of the car. Has anyone experienced this? I would like some insight before I start taking things apart.
I had a rattle from the steering column while accelerating between 2k and 2.2k rpms, quite annoying. I took it in twice and got the tach replaced the 2nd time, now all is good.
Here's a repost of a dash rattle fix.
I've been having this dash rattle in front of the speedo over bumpy roads. As tipped by Unixgal, I checked these screws since I had removed them in the past while installing my Kuda mount. They were on tight, but I noticed that the snap-out covers wiggled quite a bit so I left them off. No more rattle. Maybe I loosened these snap-out covers when I removed them before? Anyway, looks fine without them, so I'm not going to bother putting them back and figuring out how to secure them better.
Sad thing is I had a dream about doing this the night before.
Also, I fixed my rattling radar detector, the Escort 9500i, that was clipped to the headliner just to the left of the rear-view mirror. I lined the outside of the visor clip with the fuzzy-side of velcro tape to dampen its contact against the roof and windshield. I then put the hook-side of velcro on the top of my radar detector in front of the buttons. Now when it is clipped, it doesn't slide or bounce around.
Now, I am going to tackle my sunroof trim rattles with some foam tape.

but also have this rattle
since fitting the cover clips it sounds worse! What does these torque screws do...? I've tightened them but the rattle is still there. Mini replaced some clips for me about a month ago but I feel like going back asking them exactly what they replaced... has no one found a self fix for this problem yet....
I actually ordered these covers from MINI last week.... the torque screws without the cover clips bothered me... seeing the cut dash trim everytime I washed my car....

there have been a few dealer fix success stories for the upper dash or "behind the speedo" rattle. this thread has a SIM number as well. one guy required the speedo itself to be replaced as well as adding insulation behind it. doubt they used diapers though.
diapers! thanx for the link, will need to buy torque drivers 1st as I borrowed someone's the last time I checked' what bugged me a little was how to redo the screws once you put the cover back on... they sit fairly deep and surely cannot be reached by hand to "guide" them in before tightening... after my last visit to mini I think it's best to fix these "niggles" yourself as I don't think they really care about rattles etc...

1) Rattle on the dashboard, right at the point where the top of it is in contact with the A pillar. Solution: either push down really hard on that part while driving (kinda hard with a manual car) or insert a little plastic ball between the top of the dashboard and some structural member below it.
2) Odd rattle every now and then on the armrest.
3) very strange rattle on the trunk (or around it - perhaps it's something lose in there? I'm not carrying anything).
Solution to all the rattles: live with them. Everyday I seem to find a new one, so there's no point in agonizing over them. I think.

I don't have much rattling in my car except one in the headliner near the light switches inside the little domething somewhere.. i can stop it when i push up on it with my hand...
bass in the car sometimes brings out rattles in the rear hatch and side rear panels.. but not alot..
what I do get is alot of creaking from the plastic.. when the chassis flexes and torques the plastics squeak as they rub against each other... quite annoying cuz a)it sounds awful and b) makes me wheel the car is "flimsy" and "loose" even tho it's not

Strange rattle in the rear on the drivers side i think.
I have pulled everything out in the back and put the seats down as well as tried taping the latch on the hatch back cover. ive pulled seat headrests off as well
ive emptied the repair kit in the boot as well.
dealership has adjusted the rear sway bar fittings as well.
when driving it sounds like a high pitched rattle like two pieces of metal cicking together. i really think it is in the hatch and if i open the back door and drive slowly over a few bumps or even close to 50km the noise is no longer there. any ideas?

Molly has had what we hope to be one of the last Rattles fixed today at Rasmussen. The rattle was in the Secret Compartment Door, you'd push on it and the rattle would go away. From the RO here is what the Tech found and fixed:
"Test drove verified rattle noise from CD Compartment Door, removed trim, used Felt Tape to insulate area, Test Drove, No further rattles pressent from CD Compartment Area at this time."
They also performed a Sun Roof Fix, you'll find those details in the "Sun Roof does not open when it's warm out..." Thread.

Just like to update my own post
I left for a 1 month holiday and parked my car in the garage
come back after the holiday
and now I have rattles inside both of my doors or there abouts
wth??
Passenger Seat belt "DUH!!!"
I had a rattle this morning. First one in over 5,000 miles. It was the metal push hook on the passenger seat belt rattling against the side piller.

Dealer just found my 2-3k buzz that seemed to be coming from inside the dash around the steering column. It was, in fact, coming from a plastic plate to the right of the gas pedal. It is removed with a T-20 TORX head. Dealer says there is another plastic part immediately behind. Buzz was solved with a piece of 'foam' double-sided tape that was used as single-sided tape so as to not bind the two pieces together. Drove 2 hrs back from dealer and it was still working when I reentered city traffic at this end.
Three cheers for MINI of Nashville (Gary Gray-SA) for taking the time to find what was a fairly minor issue--and doing it without an appointment.
(I was there to have a side scuttle replaced.)

I have one that I believe I have narrowed down to the passenger seat, since it doesn't rattle when there is a passenger in the car, and it seems to only return the day after someone has been sitting there (i.e. the rattle won't be there for a while after the passenger has left).
I have a rolling sounds in my boot when I take a turn sometimes or take a bump at an angle... Also have a rattle coming from the passenger side somewhere but I think it's the seatbelt and i'm not too worried about it.
