Anyone seen the ECU limit boost?

Just wondering if anyone experienced this?
Long story short, basically the car lowered boost until I resarted it two hours later - then back to normal..

longer story - The other day I was driving what I consider daily driving (hard accel and normal acceleration) and it felt like my boost was at 1-2 psi? I would accelerate hard and and barely hear the factory wastegate. Drove it slow the rest of the way home then check for loose / tubing that came off from the intercooler or turbo or whatever.. everything looked ok..
parked it and drove again about an hour or two later and it was back to normal..

This can occur. More than 70 mph, with sport off and dsc on can do that. How fast were you going?

I wasn't going above 70 in that period that I can remember (speed limits were 45).. I'm pretty sure sport was off (not illuminated) and I don't have DSC, just regular traction control ..that was also enabled (active)...

hasn't happened since or previously, but 3800miles on the car...so i'll keep an eye out..

Thanks alta!

Similar thing happened to me probably about a month back. Really freaked me out as I was kind of far from home and it was pretty late at night. Went to merge onto a highway, WOT, and it felt like I had no boost at all. Strangest thing was that no warning lights came on either. Pulled into a gas station and battled with whether I should turn off the ignition or not, as for all I knew the problem would cause it not to turn back on. Thankfully it did turn back on without a problem, I checked all the tube connections and after that it drove like normal. Hasn't happened since.

On a completely different note, how are you liking the rpm2's and any pictures??? I plan to order a set in 18" for my PW/B MINI in a few weeks. Hyperblack as well and I plan to install lowering springs at the same time to complete the look.

Glad I'm not the only one lol...

Lovin' the RPM2 btw... plenty of pics here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=117490
I stuck with 17" only because the stock runflats were that size.. If I could do it again I'd go with 18" but probably a slightly different rim with a chrome lip.. but who knows

I did wheels and springs at the same time too.. H&R's..the ride is awesome, definate improvement! Good luck and hope you like the pics!

Hi,
Just a question that came to mind while I was reading the thread....
Did the boost drop, or did the valve timing/lift/duration or ignition timing go gaga? Did you happen to have a manifold pressure gage installed so you know it was the boost? With all of the electronic controls, it's hard to know what really happened. This is what has me worried....

Anyone know if all data/program errors get reported?
Marty

Boost for sure. You can see it on the gauge plain as day.

Not sure if it's the same thing or not but....

Went to an AutoX school couple of weeks ago. Had a large number of runs back to back. Had DSC off (almost 100% positive) and on my 3rd or 4th run, WOT did nothing...very distinct change in performance that was very tangible. Coming out of corners and flooring it did not spin tires and the car felt really dead. I spent the next few runs just focusing on learning to handle the car.

Anyhow, after about 6-8 runs, I thought our group was over so I parked and shut off the car and got out. Found out we weren't done, got back in the car restarted it and got into line. Launched and immediately was thrown off balance by how much power the car had regained. Basically the last 3 or 4 runs where I learned to drive the car at it's "limits" were a waste as all of a sudden it wasn't the same car anymore.

Hasn't happened since then and I was in an environment where I was dealing with too much information at the time to really get a handle on what happened.

We have seen on the tracked cars, that if the oil temps exceed x amount (sorry I don't have the # at hand) then the car will pull boost. Feels as if it has nosed off, until the oil cools. May be the same for water temps. I plan on doing more track testing with my 08 (weather permitting) later this week and I will try to report back with more info.

I assume this hasn't happened on the street?

Nope, not even a hint. Actually hasn't occured since and I have had 2 events since (though no where near the number of back to back runs).

I've seen the same thing happen at the track and at an auto-x. The car will be fine, then it will stop making boost. Cycle the ignition and it's fine again.

The issue has been reported to MINIUSA, and the current SWAG is that it has something to do with the wastegate actuator, but no idea why.

Again, I don't have an exact answer, but previous reports indicated high oil and or water temps when this occured. Sort of a safety feature. If you have the want or ability, I would add both to the car, for next time. Good information to have if you are driving the car that hard anyway.

Thanks again!

Same thing here

I was driving hard for a while (sport ON, DSC deactivated)and had the same problem. I just had at max 2-3 PSI, stopped the car with the engine ON for a couple (10) minutes and it disappeared.

At first I associated that to the ALTA ECU, but after that I thought it was high temp.

Looks like a temp gauge will be my next mod

hapened to me today,Same
