Crazy Horn Honking
Crazy Horn Honking
This weekend my Mini's horn went crazy. First I put the key in, put the car in drive, and my car started honking repeatedly. I put it in park, took the key out, got out of the car, and it's still honking like mad. It sounded like an alarm, but I don't have the alarm feature. Finally slamming the door stopped the honking. Later on I was driving, hit a bump, and the car starting it's honking again, this time while I'm driving down the road. During this drive anytime I touched the steering wheel (not the horn part) it honked. During a 90-degree turn it made a long, drawn-out honk throughout the entire turn.
Also interesting, although possibly unrelated, my windows went down on their own, without me touching anything. I think it might be an electrical short somewheres in the car.
Has anyone had anything like this happen? Or have any ideas what would cause this?

Sounds like a trip to the dealer is needed. I can't recall ever reading about the horn issue. I've heard about the window issue many times - including our own MINI.

Get to the dealer fast. I had a horn go crazy like like in a POS Buick Rendezvous (don't ask) and eventually it honked so long the steering wheel started to smoke! I had to disconnect the battery to stop the smoking and have them tow it to the dealership. Shorts are not a good thing in any automobile!
Mine did that for a while...I felt bad whenever I stopped at a light with pedistrians. I just held my hands up in the air so the wouldn't think I was blasting my horn at them. I just swung by the dealer and it was fixed in no time!
