Windshield Delaminating?

I've never seen this before on any car, but there seem to be blisters in my windshield. It looks a lot like a bad tinting job, where the water hasn't been fully squeegeed out. There are a number of these defects, averaging about 1/3" to 1/2" long, and all are horizontal. They don't really affect visibility, but I see them when I wash the windshield, inside and out.

I'm afraid to go through a windshield replacement because of the possibility of leaks, or careless scratches to the paint. If there's a danger that the glass won't perform properly in a crash, though, I'll do it.

Do you only see them when the windshield is wet?

Bizarre! I would get to your dealer ASAP and get that windshield replaced.

I have never heard of such a thing happening, but it is not beyond the realm of possibilites as the windshield is made of several layers of glass and plastic.

Hmmm--I can't see them now, so I guess the answer is yes.

Well, that could be (1) reflections of the water blots on the plastic sheeting between the glass layers (that's how they make it safety glass), or (2) actual bubbles in the plastic sheeting, which is extremely unlikely. Next time you have the windshield wet, move the car and see if the spots move or disappear.

Well, it's definitely not #1. I really think it's bubbles in the lamination. Like I say, I've never seen this in any car I've ever owned (I'm old ), but it's definitely here on this one.

Then, I agree with Skuzzy. It's defective and, if it is delaminating (and I know you've had the car a while and, apparently, hadn't seen it before), it could fail completely.

If you're old get your eyes checked before you go to the dealer, they'll say you have cataracts!

I would definitely be talking to the dealer on that...your MINI is too new for that to be happening.

I'm not THAT old!

Actually, I noticed this some time ago, but just was puzzled about it.
