Sueaky Steering

My MINI started making a nasty squeak on hard turns this morning. It was pretty cold when I left this morning, so I thought maybe it was related to be the cold. It squeaked again when I turned into my parking place at work this morning, though.

Is this something to be alarmed about? Is my power steering going out this soon?!?!?! I only have about 5,000 miles on it.

So, I went out to check the PS fluid. The resevoir is about half-full and the car is cold. I didn't see a dip-stick or anything to check the level. The cap was on very loose, so I hand-tightened it a bit more. There wasn't any evidence of a leak anywhere. The outside of the reservoir looked clean, nothing under the car...

That may have something to do with it, but you may also find that your stut-tower mount needs to be replaced...

Check out these threads to see if you're having any of the same problems

You can also search NAM and may find someone has had a problem that's similar

I searched prior to posting. Didn't come up with much.

I'm running 15's on a MC with standard suspension, so I hope to be immune to the strut tower problems. I'm planning on putting on the CravenSpeed STD's when I get a some extra cash, though, just to be extra safe.

The noise was gone as of lunchtime. I'm guessing Norton was just upset that I got him up extra early on a cold morning.

That could be the problem. This cracked strut mount doesn't seem to have anything to do with the mushrooming... I had the same noise and the dealer replaced my guide support (while I was under warranty).
