sounds like exhaust has come apart from headers...

Was out driving around today running errands, nothing unusual, and noticed on the way home that the car started getting really loud... as if the exhaust had a hole in it or something. I kind of enjoyed the sound actually, kinda like a deep magnaflow in a way, and checked it when I pulled in home a couple minutes later.

The sound is coming from the front of the car, either the engine or directly behind it. No warning lights have come on, and I don't have anything to compare it to, but it feels like it might be running hot and I might have got a whiff of something burning. Bad belt? Broken headers?

I say belt because the sound -seems- to die down as the engine dies down, and sounds a little bit like a belt slipping or something as it dies. While the car is running it sounds like the exhaust has a hole in it or something.

2002 MCS with JCW kit, aprox 140k miles....

I've not driven it since hearing it a couple hours ago, want to let it cool down before I start monkeying around with it.

Anybody got any ideas based upon my in depth description?

Outmotoring has acouple headers from 200 for the Megan header to Altas Header which is pretty expensive. The benefits outweight getting a oem header on account of being super expensive from the dealer.

as it is running feel around the exhaust flanges, exhaust manifold, anywhere you might have heard the noise. feel for air escaping. dont touch anything directly cuz then you get burned...not fun..

just left the dealer, the welds around the cat broke. Luckilly, it's still under some warranty so that's covered. Gotta wait for parts to arrive, and was told not to drive it till fixed, so time to pull out the rain gear as I'll be on my bike till it gets fixed.
