I believe this has been talked about in previous months, but I've recently started having the problem.

When I start the car the first time for the day, it doesnt want to go anywhere. I have to rev rather high and keep it there while initially moving. If I dont do this the mini really starts to lug and drag (I would just call this really bad hesitation). It dissappears rather fast.

Whats the deal with this?

Sounds like either your clutch is slipping or, you're slipping your clutch.

Neither, its definitely an engine issue.

Besides, if it was clutch related it wouldn't go away.

Maybe I just didn't explain it well enough, I dunno.

When I start to go forward in a normal manner (after just starting the car), the car will lurch, like under heave engine breaking all of the sudden. and it takes a few high reves to get it to start responding like normal.

Does that make more sense?

Yes, that sounds different.

The first description of the problem sounded more like the clutch didn't fully engage even though the pedal was all the way out (slipping) until the clutch assembly built up some heat, then mechanically it made it's connection.

Your second description sounds more like an engine management issue than clutch.
