mysterious key problem

I live in an apartment building with undercover parking out back. I've been parking " Basil " there with no problems till yesterday. The doors would not lock/unlock using the remote. I went to get a new battery thinking that was the problem. when I parked the car at the electronics store I used the remote to lock it and ...surprise...no problem. I locked/unlocked it three times with no problem. I bought a new battery anyway just in case. When I returned home and parked in my usual place it would not lock using the remote again. I replaced the battery in the key fob and tried it again...no go. On a hunch I took Basil down the block and tried it again.NO problem whatsoever lock/unlock , worked like a charm. Back home in his parking spot it didn't work again...huh? This is weird, there is nothing new in the parking area that I can see that wasn't there over the past four months...I'm confused...any ideas what might be happening . What kinds of things can interfere with the remote ?

Do you live close to any military bases ?

Wait... you live in Canada. Never mind.

Seriously, we have some problems with our garage door openers due to some electronic signals coming from an Army base about 30 miles from here. Tests done by our Homeowner's Association confirmed it.

So, know of anything weird going on in your neck of the woods ? Military, or otherwise ?

need reprogrammed after the battery install..

search for reprogram key and you will find out how .. i think you put the key in the car.. turn to first click.. then pull it out and hold down the lock button and click the unlock 4 times.. ?? you will hear the door lock and its done.

but search to make sure.. that is what i did a couple weeks ago.. found it on this site..

great place for info

We have a military in Canada eh, but no bases close to Vancouver. I do live about 5 miles from the airport but that doesn't explain why I can use the remote down at the end of the block but not in the immediate vicinity of my parking area. The only thing that's new here is a new tenant with a BMW 525 don't know if that could be the cause. She parks about 20 feet from me but I don't know why her car would cause mine any problems and she wasn't home last night when I first discovered this problem. I guess I can live with the manual operation when I'm parked here...at least it works everywhere else ...it's just weird that's all

after I replaced the battery I used it to unlock the car at the electronics store it worked fine ...no reprogramming necessary it seems...okay, just not in the parking area or any closer than approximately 100 feet from the back of my building...odd

Around my house i can lock/unlock my car for about 40 feet away, i've bin in some shopping centers where a foot from the car i had a hard time unlocking it. Chances are there is some signal near your apartment that is masking or interfering with your remote.

Any ideas about what types of signals could be causing the interference? The manager says nothing new has been installed on or near the building recently and this has only been happening for a couple of days now.

Is the Battery Cable Tight? If it is loose you can have an intermittant problem.

Cables check out OK...the problem seems to be location specific...only occurs when in my parking space at my apartment building...I'm trying to find out what signal is coming from the building that is interfering with the signal from my key. Thanks but that's not it. It seems to be off and on as well...it's buggin' me

Do you get any cell phone interference near your home? Some homeowners and businesses now employ cell-phone jammers to keep people from rudely using them. I have a movie theater near my home that has one and I can't use my keyless entry there because the cell phone jammer also interferes with my MINI fob.
