I assume it's something better. When I brought my car in for service at 12k they changed it without me asking for it, I think MINI knows it's a faulty part.

I got mine today even though my car was in service for something else.

Recently I've been hearing a faint knocking sound from the engine. I instantly thought bad engine mount. But I didn't noticed any fluid on the mount itself. So I just thought it was something else. But I guess the tech who worked on my car noticed the noise when he drove off in my car .

Thank goodness I turned off the radio when I got to the dealership.

So I was washing all of the wintertime sludge off the garage floor today and noticed some darker stains in the MINI's spot that would not scrub up for anything. Finally had to resort to WD-40 and steel wool to get it up. Getting suspicious, I popped the bonnet to take a look and...

According to the odo indicator, I've only got 975 miles until my next scheduled maintenance (~27K total). What are the odds that the dealer will go ahead and do the maintenance check if I bring it in for the mount replacement?

My dealer will do the maintenance as long as the counter is within 1000 miles....I would just call 'em up and ask.....

Thanks for the info. I hope Motorwerks in Minneapolis is equally accommodating.

+1

I'd like to replace that setup with something solid. Poly is fine with me, as I don't mind the vibrations.
I'm looking at this...

My wife's '05 MCSa just puked all over the garage floor (just under 25K miles). I have it scheduled for this coming Wednesday to leave at the dealer. My '06 MCS had the mount replaced around 21K. Hope the replacement parts are better!

Mine was just replaced today (under warranty ). Not sure if the guts have been redesigned, but the outer casing looks identical to the original part.

Now comes the fun of trying to clean up the leftover mess. I played around a bit with some WD-40, but it looks like it's going to take some time and elbow grease to get through the stained PW paint just below the mount. It may be a lost cause...

I wanna put a bracket under the nut which goes up through the damper/engine support on my 2003 MCS. How do I get the nut to loosen? Do I have to take the wheel liner off and is there a hex head bolt to grip or is the bolt connected to the damper?

I am experiencing a knocking that is not consistent. It appears when the weather is cold, and the engine is cold. Also more in 2nd gear. It does not change with either road speed or engine speed. It goes away when the weather warms up (50-55 degrees or more), and when the engine warms up. Does this sound familiar to anyone with the motor mount failure?

I keep several of these in stock, as they go out often. Glad I have an 03.

And to add to the confusion, I think MINI has re-designed the "new-style" mount at least once. My wife and I both have mid-to-late year 2006 models, and we haven't had any problems after about 30k miles on each car.

So, it's possible that if you have the mount replaced, the replacement may well last the life of the car. I do know that while I've heard of a bunch of people having to have the mounts replaced, I haven't heard many people that have had to have them replaced *twice*. (I know LOTF is doing his second replacement now, but since his first replacement was done 2+ years ago, I don't know if it would have been replaced with the redesigned mount or not.)

I guess an interesting thing to track would be how many 2007/2008 convertible owners are having to replace mounts, since they would almost certainly have gotten the redesigned units at the factory.
