Insulation Burn on JCW Intercooler

Okay...so it's a common problem that the foam insulation around the hood scoop causes unsightly discoloration and residue on the intercooler...

Does anybody know of a good way of preventing this and also cleaning the burn marks off?

Do you mean the discoloration on the intercooler cover (right on the JCW logo)?

If that's what you're asking- It's a design flaw because they all do it : (

I use Spray-Nine to clean mine. It makes it look like new.

Why do you think it's a design flaw. I would look at it as one of the many quirks that come with the cars. It adds "character". Of course the first time I saw it I wanted to get very upset with BMW but then I realized ... its not a Ferrari so its fine.

I use Simple Green to clean off the marks on the intercooler cover.

I had those dark brown-black smear marks on there too. I used Klasse AIO and it all came off....but I guess any cleaner (like Simple Green) would probaby work. The next trick is to use a sealant to protect the JCW logo sticker from getting those marks again. I used Duragloss Aquawax, but you could use any polymer sealant like Prima Hydro and the like, and it will never stain again. Mines been clean since the first time I cleaned it about 5 months ago.

I've used Meguiers Cleaner Wax. Comes off very easy.

I also wax the IC cover after cleaning it. Tends to help a little in keeping marks off it where it rubs against the foam seal.

Careful not to spray WD40 on to the cover's sticker area. It could slowly seep underneath the sticker portion and loosen that sticker right off.
Just a thought.
