My windshield cracked from the bottom half way up--dead in the center. Sure this happens to a lot of people, or so I have read. But I wasnt even driving the car! I had opened the door to retrieve something and I hear this "bop" sound...like squeezing a bag chips open. I had no idea what it was then I see this shadow line across the dash and was like NOOOOOOOO. Hair line crack up the windshield.

Now the dealer says to bring it in and they will replace it if it was not driver error. So I now have to get on a highway and proceed to drive to the dealer and pray that it doesnt chip out on the way there.

This issue...on top of the other issues...sigh. I'm seriously starting to think I made a huge mistake in getting this car regardless of how in love with it I am. This just stinks. Why cant my baby be one of the ones that doesnt have issues?

 

I'm sorry to hear that! Some cars just seem to be more prone to problems then others. What other things have gone wrong? It isnt a lemon is it?

 

The MINI glass su--s! I have replaced the windshield in both of ours. Mine cracked over night and my wife's had a star chip directly in the driver's line of sight. Good luck with dealer and the infamous 'pen' test.

 

I've never seen so many pits in a post 2000 car...My Hyundai Tiburon had a better windshield after 160k miles.

 

Going in tomorrow for my 2nd replacement, 3rd overall. I hope they resolved whatever structural problems there were with the new ones!

 

How much for a new windshield?
